Well, the inevitable has happened.

Tommy Bradley, District 33 Metro councilman, will introduce RS2004-293 at tomorrow night's council meeting. This is a resolution to close the range on weekends in favor of Monday-Friday operation.

Granted, this will increase the hours of operation, but how many shooters are free between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM during the work week?

Bradley has gotten calls from sheeple in nearby neighborhoods complaining about the noise on weekends. The nearest subdivision didn't even exist when the range began construction!

To all Middle Tennessee shooters: If you don't want to lose weekend access to a fine range, call Councilman Tommy Bradley at 615-255-4849 (w) or 615-360-3993 (h).

The resolution can be found at:

Click on Agenda and scroll down to RS2004-293.

To all Davidson County High Roaders, contact information for your councilmembers can be found on that site by clicking on Member Roster. If you don't want this resolution, I urge you to call your councilmembers right now to let them know.

Great, just great. Since I live in the next county over (about 10 minutes away from the range) nobody with the Nashville city council will care what I say. Never mind that I work in Nashville and spend quite a bit of money there.

As you point out, this range has been under construction for a while. They chose to build / buy there anyway. Tough. The street I bought on happens to be a shortcut. This makes for some obnoxious traffic at times for what is theoretically a residential side-street. You don't see me lobbying to have traffic rerouted. (I do take turns with my neighbors calling the cops and complaining about speeders - they do come down and nail people regularly)

Here's the proposal for those who don't wish to go digging -

RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-293

A resolution requesting the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to change the days and hours of operation for the Stones River Education Center to Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency operates the Stones River Hunter Education Center located off of Hobson Pike in the Antioch area of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, the Stones River Hunter Education Center provides four shooting ranges for hunters and firearms enthusiasts to practice shooting firearms, including a 200-yard range, a rifle range, and a pistol range; and

WHEREAS, the current hours of operation of the Stones River Hunter Education Center are Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to sunset but no later than 8:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to sunset but no later than 8:00 p.m.; and

WHEREAS, the loud noise from the shooting ranges is having an adverse impact on the neighboring residents in the area; and

WHEREAS, residents of the area have also expressed concerns about public safety as a result of the gunfire; and

WHEREAS, the current days of operation of the Stones River Hunting Education Center is negatively affecting more of the residents in the area than if it were open during the week, since more residents are at home on the weekends; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency change the days of operation of the Stones River Hunter Education Center from weekends to weekdays.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to change the days and hours of operation for the Stones River Education Center to Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Gary T. Myers, the Executive Director of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, to each member of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission, to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly, and to Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Who cares if you live just out of voting area? Do they check ID/address/voting record? Write a letter with your name and mail it in their city. Give your cell phone number as contact/do it online. Go to meetings if possible and never mention you don't vote for them. You HAVE a horse in this race. Good luck.

I just e-mailed my councilman as well as all five councilmembers-at-large. Hopefully, they will listen to common sense and reason.

You guys need range protection like we have here in WI. Of course you have CCW and we only wish we had CCW.:(
