To Buy or Not to Buy

I was at one the local gunshops yeaterday and they had an interesting rifle for sale. It was an Egyptian AK47 design with a 20 (or so) inch barrel and an OEM bipod on the barrel. It's in great shape, but I wonder about the quality of Egyptian manufacturing and whether the longer barrel and bipod would improve accuracy at the range, at the expense of a bit more cumbersome handling. It has a wooden thumbhole stock design also. Price was $299. Anyone familiar with the Egyptian AK or shot one with a longer barrel? Thanks in advance.

Any AK worth its salt will, unfortunately, cost more than $299. Check out some of the better (slightly higer priced ones) at Atlantic Firearms.

If its good condition its worth it,The egyptian AK's were built with original russian machines.Like any other AK if the sights are straight and you can check the internals and barrel you are good to go.The price they are asking is good when u consider that the average century build goes for about $350-400.The thumbhole stock can be easily replaced as long as you keep up your u.s, parts count.Im sure others will chime in and correct me if I an wrong.If i saw it at that price I would grab it up.

Sounds like an Egyptian RPK clone? For that money, why not? Get rid of the thumbhole stock and buy a US made RPK stock and have some fun...

When the Maadis were new, they were comparably inexpensive- I remember seeing standard configuration (regular bbl length, thumbhole stock IIRC, no bipod) rifles for $199 a couple years before they banned them. If the gun looks good inside, I don't think you have too much to loose.
