To NY Hunters

I have resisted making this post, but....
Every one does what their conscience advises them to do, and the taking of game under questionable circumstances is one.
I take exception with the posting and pictures of NY hunters who take spikes and four pointers.
NY law is that a buck MUST have at least 3 ( repeat, 3) antlers on ONE side.
So unless he's very atypical at the least he should be a 5 pointer.
This is the third year this rule has been in effect, to allow them to mature.
Need I say more?

Yes, the restriction you mentioned applies to wmu 3a, 3c, 3h, 3j, 3k,4g, 40, 4p, 4r, 4s and 4w. Doesn't apply to the whole state. Are you in an affected wmu? So all feet pics posted are legal nys deer.

I’m in 8H. As long as it’s 3” long it’s good to go.

I also don’t give a flying fig Newton about trophies, I care about meat.

If NY ACTUALLY cared about managing the deer population and not just revenue, there are at least 5 considerably more effective things they could do than antler restrictions. But they don’t. They never have. Hunting makes the state money and therefore they’re hesitant to do what’s good for the population but might be unpopular for the hunters.

Where i do most of my deer hunting it is 3 inches or longer spike to be a legal buck, anything shorter then that you must use a doe tag on it.
The next unit over has the three point or better regulation and issue very few anterless tags for that area.
