I thought that you guys were trying to derail the Heller case out of spite or political motivations. I was upset about this and joined GOA whose rhetoric was less compromising.

Now I see how narrow it was, and that one of the assents wasn't even on the court when Heller was coming up, I can see why you all did what you did. You were trying to save all our butts from a 4-5 collective rights loss. I now hear from Gurathat he considered you guys invaluable in the runup to the SCOTUS after the composition of the court changed.

I also see what you're doing in San Francisco and Chicago, trying to get those bans overturned. Your motivations are pretty good.

Here's my $35. Count me in. Go get 'em.

Heller; nope I was hoping for a pro-individual rights ruling. The DC thing will slowly work itself out but I don't expect much to change there. They are saying that "most semi-auto" pistols are not going to be allowed or from their perspective "registered". Registration is not necessary. DC, NYC, NJ, and Chicago would be some of the last places I would choose to live ever in the USA.

Me too, JL. I'm in the same boat and joining the NRA.
This case has been an illustration of how banding together we can win, separating on individual agendas we will all lose collectively.

If the antis gain ground on fudd vs tacticool, handgun vs rifle, open/concealed carry, reasonable restriction vs what the 2nd actually says, then I'm not going to split hairs anymore. I'm in, and I'm in for EBRs, Fudds, OC, concealed, hunting, sport shooting, anything with a projectile.

This case opened my eyes, thanks to the very eloquent and informative threads on THR, rabid Chicagoan politicians ranting, the police chief of DC, and of course little ole Mr. Heller.

I upgraded to Life Member last year when I realized that as good as some of the other gun groups are,the NRA was and is doing the vast amount of the heavy lifting in battling the anti's.
They're certainly not perfect but without them our gun rights would have been lost long ago.
I'm glad you all have become members.:)

Good choice. I joined back in April or so with some of my wedding money. If nothing else, I enjoy the American Rifleman that I recieve. I wish that I had some extra money now to send off to the NRA-ILA to help out with the upcoming cases.

If I were you, rather than sending the cash to the NRA, I'd send it directly to the ILA. Not that joining the NRA is a bad thing, but the ILA is the branch that's "fighting the fight", so to speak. I'm pretty sure that the NRA does send money to it's ILA branch, but it's limited in what percentage it can send.

I'll be sending them (the ILA) some cash soon as well. It's no secret that I've got issues with the NRA, but every little bit does help.

I re-upped two months early through USMC - Retired 's recruiter link and made my first donation to the NRA-ILA, both in celebration. Previously my only donations had been to the NRA Foundation through the Combined Federal Campaign.

Let's Face It...

...the pro-RKBA organizations see themselves in competition for donations. While SAF/CCRKBA and NRA often are fighting side by side in lawsuits, as may be GOA, which has just formed a Defend Our Guns fund, each will portray itself as the lead organization in the fight.

Yes, NRA tried to derail the original Parker case, now Heller. Did they do so in a principled way, arguing why they thought it was a risky gambit? Not as far as I can tell. Have they taken other positions with which I disagree, such as the NICS Improvement Act ("Veterans Disarmament Bill")? Yes. Am I resigning my NRA Life Endowment Membership in protest? No, but for a few years now, I have been giving my dollars to GOA, AzCDL, The Firearms Coalition and SAF/CCRKBA.

I thought it was the SAF (with Gura) that filed the Chicago suit.
There are multiple lawsuits being filed in Chicago. SAF filed in like 15 minutes after Heller was announced, and the NRA has/is filing suits in Chicago as well.

Like jjbduke2004, I donate to the NRA Foundation through the Combined Federal Campaign. $5 per month to be exact.

I joined the NRA on the day of the Supreme Court Heller ruling.

I will be making payroll donations to the NRA-ILA soon.

I just finished paying off my NRA EPL (Extended Pay Life) in a lump sum two months ago. I am a very proud Life Member, and I would suggest all members look into the EPL. $25 every 3 months will not break anyone, and if you get a bonus or a windfall you can pop it in.

I am very, very proud to be a Life Member of the oldest civil rights organization in the USA.

I just upgraded from life to endowment( I think) or whatever the next level is. I just looked at it as a contribution to the cause

Upgraded to a life member, the wife and I are also actively involved in a side branch' the friends of the NRA also upon which 'funds' by donations and activity are 'send to the ILA for such things as 'funding case fights' and other such.

Any org thats fighting for OUR RIGHT's has by backing...
