I grow up in NC and that’s a nice area! I use to summer camp in the area, alone, and I was more scared of UFO’s and ghost than anything else… never seen either.Just a stroll in the Western North Carolina Cherokee County mountains with my new Glovk 29 10mm.
I feel quite confident from man or beast with my hearty companion!
great place to trout fish, but I’m really bad at fly fishingIt is a beautiful area. The wide Notteley River runs through it and a more gorgeous place on a moonlit night is hard to find.
Always a hiking staff Is that your sig 10mm?
Yep. Always bring a stick.Always a hiking staff Is that your sig 10mm?
Thanks, always like your carry choices. I need to do a better job taking a staff or pole with me. Handgun, knife, and staff are tools all hikers should have.Yep. Always bring a stick.
That’s my P938 in 9mm. I was on my way to the city and stopped off for a walk first.
Knife is a Bestech Ornetta in M390 steel.
Yep. They come in handy for snakes, and I’ve fended off aggressive dogs without hurting them by sticking the end right in their face. They don’t know what to make of it.Thanks, always like your carry choices. I need to do a better job taking a staff or pole with me. Handgun, knife, and staff are tools all hikers should have.

I rode along our fields and down along the little river that cuts through our property. View attachment 1007912Wildlife was out and about......View attachment 1007913
I saw deer, quail, turkeys, and a wood duck on my circle. The deer was the only one kind enough to pose for a pic.
This tree was the site of the very first deer stand that I ever saw. It was a steel folding chair wired to this tree with a rope and cleats to help climb up....wow have things changed since 1974!

This is a sandstone outcropping on North Fork. My ancestors quarried the rock to build a cellar under their 1859 home.View attachment 1007966
The storm clouds were looking ominous, so I headed for home....no rain though.View attachment 1007967
that’s some grassy scat! bear was probably a beastSaturday, my wife and I decided to go check out a spot I hadn't been to since before the wildfire came through. I really didn't think it had been touched, but couldn't say for sure.
Unfortunately, my better half didn't want to take the short and steep way, so I had to figure out a longer but easier route for us and the dogs. It turned out to be around 2 miles one way, but took us through some country I hadn't previously seen.

She was walking the dogs, and I was walking my GSR.

I found a couple piles of what I can only assume is very grassy bear scat. (Fortunately I had a G22/31 for size reference).

Over the last saddle, our destination is in sight. (The second scat was right around here)

To the right of that hill and looking left is a nice view.
View attachment 1008035
And right around the rocky pinnacle we climbed for that shot, was more bear scat which likely had some berry matter in it from the gulley just below and out of shot.
View attachment 1008036
The dogs create too much noise to sneak up on anything though, so no wildlife this time. But the views on the way back were also pleasant, particular as the sun started peeking out a little.

This is one of my favorite ongoing threads on THR.A lot of fine pics from numerous posters! Thank you all.
Thanks for sharing the pictures. How heavy is the Ruger ? Great way to get in shape for hunting season.Another wander in the high country today (8,000' or so I think).

Despite the storm clouds brewing, getting up the hill was hard hot work. But at least there was some shade to cool down in.
View attachment 1009616
I set up some shelter and just hung out for a while.
View attachment 1009617
But unfortunately, even with the storm clouds coming over, the heat didn't reduce much and the humidity soared.
View attachment 1009618
So after several hours without seeing any notable wildlife, I headed back down.
Not a bad day, but not quite what I'd hoped for when I planned it a few days prior. The forecast was cooler, and I thought maybe I'd get lucky and see that bear. No such luck, but I did have some company.
