Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

Thank you. Ooops I forgot to mention COFFEE. I had coffee. Actually, I'm a fan of good whiskey, but when doing the outdoors any kind of alcohol dulls my senses (possibly already dull!)(makes them "duller"?) and saps my energy a bit. So I don't. For sure, either one would have gone well with the cigar. Really the best way to smoke a cigar. :)
My buddy says his smokes are best when lit off a campfire.

Just a few pics of some recent activities while my truck is loading...

Mrs F and I enjoyed a week in sunny Florida on and around Anna Maria Island.

Cool way to mount the turkey tails. I might do that, or something like it.

View attachment 1194187Heading to Florida this week with a stop in Gatlinburg to break up the trip.
Rainy day so we only hiked a few short trails. Laurel Falls and Gatlinburg Trail.
642 was my carry with 158gr hardcast.

Enjoy Florida my friend. Hope the weather cooperates and warms up

Cannot go wrong with Anna Marie.
The pintail is awesome

Another atv ride to try to fix a problematic cellular trsilcam. New batteries and relocation.

This isn't as nice as the sugar sands of the Florida gulf coast.....but to some extent, sand is sand. Mussel shells instead of sea shells.
I had the "where you hunt" thread in mind when I snapped these pics....but it works here too.

Thus time I carried my little 3" kframe pre-10 .38spl. I'm really liking this one.

I will take these locations over the beach.

hiked up a state reservation where my lithuanian immigrant greatgrandfather used to cut timber as a young man in late 1800s. i typically pick up a cast-off maple sapling cutting that i turn into a walking staff or a cudgel. ccw was a new s&w bodyguard 380acp pistol. i’m unsure about keeping it. easy to carry but its long trigger pull is much worse than that of a s&w airweight snubbie that it is compared to and what i often carry outdoors.

Yesterday I enjoyed the outdoors, and chose to carry....
View attachment 1191587
My Savage 219 with the 20 gauge barrel on it. Yes, I actually packed a chair in two miles, but it folds up fairly small, and is fairly light. Would not do that normally, but it was a very nice day, after much very cold and very wet weather.
View attachment 1191588
Also a new 1863 Remington .44 that I picked up in a trade. Her first hike. 32 grains of Pixie dust under a 207 grain bullet, she speaks with authority.

I also brought.....
View attachment 1191594
A New York steak, wrapped in foil with seasonings and two slabs of butter. Yes, it was that good.
View attachment 1191595
Then I had oysters. A real pig-out-in-the-woods day.
View attachment 1191596
Topped that off with a cigar.
View attachment 1191597
We had a bunch of snow, then rain and temps in the 40's, (high) so many of the low spots filled with water. Usually only see this happen in the spring.
View attachment 1191598
The pistol belt and ammo load out. Two 20 gauge shot shells, six 410's with a little skeeters chamber insert. Seven 20 gauge Brenneke slugs, and about 18 or so combustible round-ball cartridges for the pistol. Six 207 grain slug loads in the pistol. That Cold Steel "Bushman" knife has really worked well for bush crafting, it is indestructable (undestructable?) and keeps a keen edge. I did some wood splitting with it.

There is the chair, packed up. I did feel the extra weight for sure, but it sure was comfortable. Any more than the four miles I traveled and it would not be worth it. But it was DANG comfortable. For sure. Saw lots of critters, walked into a herd of Elk, (well within 150 or so yards) Saw some moose as I was heading towards the road to get picked up, but for once they were a ways off. Also, when I was at my "camp" and eating, a pack of coyotes started singing very close by. That's kind of unusual, in the middle of the day. They were upwind of me. Anyhow, a great day in the woods, took a book, saw and heard critters, ate steak and oysters, had a cigar, it don't get better than that. Thanks for listening.
You Sir, know how to live. Thanks for taking us along!

Yep, I've been "enjoying" the rain also. Either that or stay home. And rain means above zero, so that's a good thing. Even shot my flintlock musket in the rain-snow mix yesterday.

Good pics, interesting terrain, very different from mine. (Washington State)
Quite different, indeed. Our "Winter" rain is enjoyable with temperatures in the 50-60's, the summer storms not so much: downpours come embedded with lightning strikes.

That's the cool thing about this thread. I lived in Southern Cal until I was 18, I kind of miss the desert, spent a lot of time in them, and the hills and canyons when I was young. Knew them well. "Chose to carry" a 7mm Spanish Mauser back then. Shot jack-rabbits. Don't think I'd trade it for what I have now, but I'd enjoy wandering in one again. But the swamplands, never been there. Would love to check it out.

Nice pics. Yeah, it was literally 48 hours of light rain here - East Central FL - thought about taking a walk in one of the many trail around, but other duties took precedent. Gotta love the swamp on a rainy, cool day :)
Gotta love the swamp on any day. Some days more than others though.

The south Florida summer storms are ok. It takes a balance of weather to make it right. The summer storms are angry at times but to me, still enjoyable

I grew up in northwest Florida and enjoyed a lot of time outdoors. Spent a couple years in South Florida in 2018-2020 but did not get out in nature as much. Now I want to go back and spend the time outdoors. Not sure it will happen though

Spent last week in Florida. Starting in Daytona. Walked the beach a little, meet up with family that was vacationing from Canada, and went to the Duels. Our first Nascar race.
I must be a little bit of a country boy. My favorite cars in the museum at the speedway were Walkers and Stewart's trucks.
Then ran over to the Gulf Coast to see family and friends.
As @Mars5l mentioned it was a rainy weekend. We got lucky on Saturday and hiked a little on Saturday at Myakka State Park. After The hike we headed back to Saint Augustine hoping to catch the 500... Rained out. We are back in the Smokies to break up the trip home.

We just missed each other by a few weeks. We talked about going to Myakka, but had plenty to do around Bradenton and Anna Maria Island.
Maybe better planning next time?

We were going to head over to Anna Maria Island, but ended up with 500 tickets...
So changed our plans.
We are going back to Daytona for the 400 race in August.
No carry at the speedway ☹️ part of life.

Yesterday I enjoyed the outdoors, and I chose to carry....
acdc7.jpg
Good old Brown Bessie. We are kind of over-run with moose lately, so I like to pack a big punch in case Bullwinkle gets sassy.
acdc4.jpg
And the "Little Brat" went along just for fun.
acdc2.jpg
The moss was in "bloom", or something, don't know much about moss. The camera just did not pick up the bright color. It was "electric" looking. And everywhere.
acdc6.jpg
Stopped for coffee, lunch, and a cigar of course.
acdc3.jpg
My own private pond at my lunch stop. Not really a pond, a lot of the low spots fill with water in the spring. Having kind of an early spring or something.
acdc8.jpg
North end of the "Giant Meadow" is starting to fill up. It will be flooded until early summer. It's a big hay meadow on private land. Yes, I'm on the other side of the fence. !!
acdc5.jpg
Another one of my favorite little meadows, also filling up early.
acdc9.jpg
End of the day, heading back to the road, there's the full moon. Just thought it looked cool peeking out from behind a big dead tree. And it was a big one. Sometimes they will log sections of the state land, but I guess they (the State) make them leave a few of the big trees. No really old growth, but there's some that are getting on to 100 years old. Okay, Bessie and the Little Brat say: "thanks for listening".
