Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

All right, you’re making me jealous now!
I thought you went out to find paradise.
No, you live right in it! :D
Or on it, as the mountainous case may be...
It's a nice place. I usually have 5-8 dear bedded down every morning in my back yard all fall and winter, and the fauns sit in my tall grass. Eventually the dear learn I'm not going to urt them and they stop running. I pulled into my driveway the other night and there were three sitting about 15 feet from my driveway. When I got out of my truck, they didn't even bother standing up. There's a lot of wild animals here. I was out on the trail the other day and came across a turkey with five poults in tow. They really make me laugh.

This week walks have been accompanied by my XDs. It's hot, so I've been carrying something that can tolerate some sweat.

Thank you, Wisborn and 460Shooter, for the photos and the kind words about the 686+.

I also have the 3" barrel and it is a real comfort carrying this great gun anywhere but especially out on the wilderness trails!

I would like to add a S&W 66 some day for the little lighter weight, but I won't get rid of my 686+.

460shooter, somewhere in those canyon walls ride the ghosts of William Barclay (Bat) Masterson, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Geronimo, and Clint Eastwood :scrutiny: er ... and some other western cowdudes.
I know that Clint Eastwood is getting old , but a ghost! He is 90:rofl: and still could put down the bad guys!!!!

I’ve been only posting pictures of current outings but why not visit the past? These pics are from about 6 years ago in Bryce Canyon. I carried a S&W 642 loaded with 135 gr Speer short barrel ammo. No longer have the gun but still have the pics. If I was going today I’d Cary my XDs.

I’ve been a lot of places and seen a lot of stuff. But the desert SW in the US is special. I will share pictures in a little bit, but I told my brother and father years ago “If I ever disappear, look for me near Zion.”

And I meant it.

On the same trip I visited Zion NP and it was beautiful. Also carried my 642.

I hiked 16 miles in Bryce and 11 miles in Zion. The light weight of the 642 was a blessing.

The peek I hiked up is called Angel’s Landing. In some spots there’s just a chain to hold onto. That’s a Mexican spotted owl.

The triangle shape at the bottom of the valley is a bus stop.

Yesterday afternoon got a wild hair and decided to take a ride to our deer huntin' country. Asked Mrs. Johnson if she would like to go and she said "Sure!"

Twenty minutes later we were on the road with snacks, beverages and things that shoot. (guns and camera)

Stopped at the entrance to the shack, that is where there is an old gravel pit that we shoot firearms.

Had my Mark IV with, fired fifty rounds at a self-sealing spinning gopher target. Need to practice as only 7, 8 out of each magazine connected.

Went up the road to a beaver slew that I like to hang out. Have seen all sorts of critters there. Deer, black bear, mink, maybe a pine martin and of course beavers if one stays late enough....:)

The Ruger sitting on what's left of what I sat on years ago.

We did see a bear on our way out. But getting dark and the bear was making fast tracks so no chance for a photo.

Nice pictures and pistol  Hard to get bored looking at those views all day:)

Made a pilgrimage today up to where my grandfather's ashes were spread and a plaque attached to a boulder where he used to hunt elk. Arduous 3-mile hike through thick Idaho mountain underbrush up the mountain. I had never been there before. Great day and perfect for hiking with temps around 68 degrees and a light breeze.

Never seen so much elk sign in my life and we were in Grizzly country. Normally take my Glock 10mm into the woods, but to honor grandpa, and because it was Grizzly country, brought along some more muscle. Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley in .45 Colt. Lot's of raided huckleberry patches and bear sign.

Took a pic of an impressive pile of bear scat likely left by a Grizzly...

Soybeans.
If you want to change scenery......look north. Corn.
It may not be too scenic, but its a pretty good workplace.
Last night I attended to a dog alert in my sweet corn patch with this. 20200902_201204.jpg .
