Well it's a rather chilly weekend for a spring time Florida. Got a 7.5 mile hike in, got home and was starving as really didn't eat anything all day.

He was trying to eat something in the path and I got quite close to him surprisingly til he finally flew up on a tree branch. This is also the less traveled areas of Florida since everyone comes for the beaches and amusement parksLucky that big black bird was not starving! It's cool to see country that is so different from mine. Never been to Florida.
Nice country and nice pack, looks like just big enough to transfer some weight to your hips from your shoulders. I have a Medium Alice pack with upgraded shoulder straps and it still is torture to wear for any length of time. I wanted a 10mm years ago but now I think I would struggle to shoot it well because of the recoil? I shoot my 1911 pretty well but stick with 200gr Hornady XTP loads which seem tamer to me than 230 ball. I have a G34 that I bought in the early 2000s and used in competition pretty heavy for about 10 years. Of all the guns I have if I had to rely on one of them going bang every time, it would be the Glock. Great pictures.I took 3-4hrs today to enjoy that great outdoors, and ended up going around 3 miles with maybe 1250' elevation gain. Nice day, just a bit windy.
After the initial 3/4 mile and 900' elevation push, I got my breath back. Looking back down on the gulch, I was pretty pleased to find it had only taken me 30 minutes.

I think it helped that I finally bought a new pack that centers and lower the weight I'm carrying. But it also helped that I emptied my pockets completely and freed up my legs.

10 years ago I stayed right away from fancy designs like this. I preferred a military style tough guy pack. But times have changed and so have I. Now I'd rather be comfortable, even at the risk of looking like a yuppie. And as I'm planning to do more alpine hikes this year, I need all the help I can get!
I wandered on and found some views.

When I sat down to relax, these guys came over and went from tree to tree. Probably Red Crossbills, but certainly a Crossbill of some sort.

I'm not sure when the mine slots were finally covered, but being that they went almost straight down for 20-25', it's about time.

And I was carrying, on it's debut outing, the new Gen4 G29. With a TLR-8A (that is useless in broad daylight just fyi), and for weight saving a spare 10 round G20 magazine filled with 180gr FMJ-FN and BE-86. The reduced weight on both sides of the belt was something my hip flexors greatly appreciated.

Looks like gator country! It also looks like I would get lost there in a heartbeat without GPS because the terrain looks pretty similar. Good looking handle on that knife!Well it's a rather chilly weekend for a spring time Florida. Got a 7.5 mile hike in, got home and was starving as really didn't eat anything all day.

No sir, it's the Salem Lutheran Church in the small community of Whitehall, Grimes County. About 60 miles NW of Houston. Is that one of the painted churches east of seguin?
The trees are very nice this year IMO.My cuz and his Mrs from our 'hood are visiting DC for the cherry blossom spectacle.
I sure like that airweight 442.
I've decided that you're actually running from the law. You're never in one place for long...you have a gun...you go by an alias....The trees are very nice this year IMO.
As far as the 442. Thank you! I think everyone needs to have a J frame

YeahFarmer, you're giving up my cover
The sad part is, I have been home more than I planned this winter. (Family issues and a strom in Florida.) I drove home yesterday (just under 1100 miles). Leaving on April 2 for the Smoky Mountains for two weeks.
Looking forward to hiking with one of our THR friends on the trip.
The funny thing is that THR friend is in DC this week with his son's class trip
If anyone else would like to meet up for a hike let me know.
I hope to shoot my Kimber R7 Mako this week. If I find a good combination it will be my carry choice in the Smokys. I will have a second handgun with me also.
I know that Armored Farmer gets out any chance he gets
Life is to short to drink cheap whiskey !
And a wise friend told me once.
You know that you did it right when the last check you write is to the undertaker and it bounces
The place would never be the sameYeah
I would love to do a thr hike sometime....even if it is with a fugitive.
Are you trying to say that @Armored farmer & @WisBorn would raise a little #$%& if we got together. The place would never be the same
Not to worry...y'all are safe for a while. I need to lose 50# before I hike very far.....Are you trying to say that @Armored farmer & @WisBorn would raise a little #$%& if we got together.
Let's see, we both have beautiful wives that love the outdoors. We both are gun nuts. We care about our friends and family. And we take The High Road...
Not to mention that we pick Good Beer over high priced wine. And life is to short to drink cheap whiskey
It's a Catch 22. I need to exercise to lose weight and I need to lose weight in order to exercise...Not to worry...y'all are safe for a while. I need to lose 50# before I hike very far.....
@WisBorn would need to dangle a cheeseburger in front of me.
Yes my friend, I need to drop 25# myself. I have slowed down a little. Need to get 5 more years out of my knee replacement before I have it done againNot to worry...y'all are safe for a while. I need to lose 50# before I hike very far.....
