Something I never noticed about this page before is that it also announced the death of Maj. Richard Bong, America's top WW II ace with 40 kills while flying a P-38 Lightning.

Thanks Mike. I tend to write small, but that front page is a bit too small for me to read. Another great pilot of that war was Jimmy Thach. He developed the Thach weave that allowed our Wildcat pilots to take on the Zero and defeat it. I think he was lost on a night mission. Apart from the Revolution, America was never better served than by those who served in WW II. Hats off to the dead and a salute to the survivors.

I've stopped bothering to post the actual links here as the Times requires that you register before you can view most of the stuff on the main page, and I got sick and tired of being accused of being in collusion with the Hyperflembaric Reptiliomammal Aliens, who suck the skeezflamix fluid out of the eyes of the people who register for the Times site.

Apart from the Revolution, America was never better served than by those who served in WW II.

I disagree. Great men and women serve in every era. What changes is our people's appreciation for their sacrifice.

And that is a damn shame.
