Today was a good day!!!!

Have the day off in the middle of the week and have been waiting impatiently to get test out my latest toy!!!

To get my feet wet in the EBR market, I recently bought an entry level DPMS Sportical. Yes, I know it is not the top of the range be-all-and-end-all EBR, but my funds are limited and I was not going to lay out $1,200+ for a rifle and then possibly find out that I did not like it. So, I got this (sans optics) for $699 on Gunbroker:-

I added the essential BUIS - no optics for now
Midwest Industries Flipup Gasblock front sight - $79
MATECH Rear Flipup battle sight - $69
Also got 5 extra Magpul magazines off Gunbroker for $75

For comfort I added
Ergo pistol grip, because the std grip was not comfortable at all
Tapco butt pad to add a little more comfort to the shoulder.

Now she looks like this

This morning I loaded up and hit the I-95 north to Sebastian Indian River public shooting range.
It was HOT!!!! but fairly comfortable under the awnings with the fans moving some air.
There was a slight breeze from left to right.
Not having fired an AR before I was eager to try this one and see if I like it.
My Semi Auto rifle experience has been in the South African military with the R1 (FAL clone) back in the late '60's.
Needless to say - IT WAS A BLAST!!!!!!!!!
I love this AR platform and it will be totally addictive!!!
I purposely limited myself and only had 4 mags filled with Brown Bear 55gr MFJ and I just took my time and had loads of fun.
I still need to spend more time with the rifle and get used to it, but I am comfortable that it is accurate and reliable enough for my plinking needs for now.

Here is one target that was put up at 50yds - closest I was allowed for sighting in. It was too hot to walk all the way out to the 100yd line as well(lazy ass!!):-

Total shots on this target was about 46(20rd permag+ 6 extra). Somewhat scattered, but then,I am rusty and it will settle down in time.
The important thing is that I had loads of fun and the gun ran smoothly, with no hiccups or failures during the time I spent on the range. I know it is only a small sample and the gun was not put under any stress, but I am comfortable with it, knowin that it will do what is required in any emergency CQ situation that I might have to face.

Needless to say, the EBR BUG has bitten me and I will invest more in the future.

not sure but I think most people will agree a drug habbit is less addictive than the black rifle habbit
