Today the mailman dropped off my newest knife, the All About Pocket Knives 2010 forum knife. This year they choose the trapper pattern and the knives were made by Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC). The specs are....

Clip point master blade & spey secondary blade made with 1095 high carbon steel.
Eye-catching cut swedge on each of the satin finished blades complete with half stops.
Top grade oiled interior cut ram's horn handle material.
Handsomely lined & dimpled nickel silver bolsters.
All About Pocket Knives " etch on the mark side of the master blade.
Custom AAPK tang stamp on mark side of clip point blade & reverse side of spey blade.
"2010" tang stamped on mark side of the spey blade.
Custom AAPK nickel silver shield that is pinned through to the liner.
Exclusive AAPK Ltd. Edition - 100 pieces made with interior ram's horn.

The trapper pattern has a long history in the US, designed for fur trapper it featured a clip blade for general use as well as a spey blade that was ideal for skinning. The interior rams horn used on this doesn't show up well in the photos, it is an oily translucent material that feels warm in the hand and very velvety to the touch.

This one will take it's place with my other trapper, some of which are shown below. It has near perfect walk and talk, a balance between being a nail breaker and having great snap. I think it will become one of my favorite trappers to EDC.

GEC is a US maker who's brands also include Tidiouti and Northfield Un-X-Ld. I would rated them just above Case in quality...and in price, on par with Queen and Schatt and Morgan. This is my second knife from them, the first was a small easy open jack.

The translucence of the oiled horn is really eye catching...just hard to show in the pics. Here tho you can see the two bottom pins through the horn. They are a good 1/8th inch from the edge of the scales. It puts me in mind of hard butterscotch candy. This is the first interior oiled rams horn I have owned but now with an example in hand it is a scale material I will watch for more often.

I do plan on using this one...but I want to protect those scales as much as possible so it will be carried either in a DM Bullard belt pouch or a William Henry pocket clip pouch.

William Henry pocket clip pouch

Huh! I have come around to traditional knives more over the last few years, but my biggest complaint was still that I truly enjoy having a pocket clip. That product would seem to solve that problem, and it is kind of classy looking to boot! I don't mind the wear on the bolsters of my two trappers as it is honest pocket wear, but if I can keep them shiny, so much the better. Where does one find these, as my attempts at google-fu failed?

Thanks!

Very nice knife. I love Trappers. I just bought a GEC knife. Quality seems excellent. It is a real nice little slip joint with a very strong spring like Case's used to be years ago. HSO, you need to visit Smoky Mt. Knife Works more often. :)

The clip pouches can be tough to find...just have to keep an eye out for them online. I always root through used leather bins in gun shops as well, you can often find the cheap suede clip on holster for just a few bucks and they can be cut down an sewn into nice clip pouches.
