Too cheap to pass up...but I'm passing it up.

Lol, I just built that exact setup. Anderson lower with that $299 kit. Honestly, aside from a slight out of spec front pivot pin, it all went together very well. I havnt test fired it (yet), but it seems quite decent, especially for the $355 I have into it. I dont expect it to run with my $1300 DMR rifle or my $900 14.5" carbine, but if it works 80-90% as well for a third or quarter of the price, then its a winner in my book. Added a couple freebies that have been sitting on a shelf for a couple years (charging handle, rear sight and handguard). Attached a pic.

Wow, the slick-side is $299. This bubble is really bursting!

ETA: Oh, that's without lower, nevermind.

I'm considering jumping on this more as time goes on. Maybe when I have more spare cash...snd I would want to build it more like an Ares SCR. I still love that look.

Keep in mind this kit is likely using bottom bin parts and an unlined 4140 barrel. But $340 + transfer fee = better than a pointed stick.

While ordinarily true, this kit uses a 4150 barrel (unlined, but no big deal, my best barrels arent lined). It also uses a 7075 receiver and a c158 MPI bolt. Darn good specs for the money. Kind of surprising really. As soon as I test fire mine, with Wolf steel cased ammo, I'll post it up.

Someone on another AR thread said to stay away from PTAC. Not into AR's and no idea what PTAC is. Can someone please enlighten me?

Its just a budget branded AR series. Early on it had some serious teething issues. Its very far from the best, but its still on par spec-wise with most DPMS, Bushmaster, etc. If you want a carbine for the end of the world, post apocalyptic future wasteland.... look at some $800-$1300 rifles, there are better options.

True but some one will pay $2000 for it when the next scare comes around.

I bet you it shoots a bullet out of the barrel, and does so with frequency. Which makes it a good buy for someone who just wants an AR.

PTAC has had a lot of issues with the barrel, the PSA kits are a little more and much better. Their premium barrels are made by FN not far from their location in SC

hmmnnhhh.... $299. And I just happen to maybe have a complete spare lower...

Haha ya. I always SEEM to have a spare lower, I always Seem to build another AR and my credit card debt never SEEMS to go down...;)

Jackal...explain your strategy to my wife please. I can't seem to get her to understand the concept of a "spare gun" she keeps wanting justification

It's just another black gun, tell her you've had the one in your hand "forever".

Haha. I was kind of forced via ultimatum, to choose between my Conservative, all American, freedom loving, happy lifestyle and my wife..... I still have my guns and she now has a different husband...;):D:evil:

Fired mine yesterday. Only put 100rds of Wolf steel cased through it as fast as I could yank the 7.5lb trigger. Worked flawlessly. Since its going to be irons only, I wont bother benching it for accuracy. If I need tight accuracy, I'll use my Larue barreled billet side charger.

Anyway, for the $365 the base rifle cost me, I certainly cant complain. It goes bang and hits what I point it at.

EDIT NOTE: One thing I DONT like is that they gorrila'd the barrel nut on. I attempted to remove it and stopped at 100 ft lbs... Its definitely far in excess of max 80lbs.... Shame on you.
