Hello all,

Reloading with new dies and new bullets here. I've got the overall length at 2.7995, but it looks like I might still be hitting the lands? It's a .308, and the recommended OAL is 2.8.

What do you think? I tried to show the marring in the picture below.

Thanks for the help

I should note, they don't go all the way around the bullet, only about 1/4 the way around.

that just looks like where it scraped on its way in the chamber. if you're in the lands, you'll usually see distinct individual marks from the rifling lands all the way around.

that makes sense. What's weird is I can't really get it to replicate. I put it in upside down and right side up (relative to the marring) and I get nothing new.

weird.

thanks for the help.

does not look like traditional rifling marks.
If this is your initial loading, be sure to start with the starting load and work up.

Actually, I have a question on the same topic.

I measured my "OAL gauge" (case w/ loose bullet) ad it showed 3.101", but the book shows 3.100" reccommended OAL. Is 3.100" too close to the lands?

From what I have understood so far from reading on here is you basically want no rifling marks/direct rifling contact. Looks like the OP is clear of that.

Hope this doesn't divert too much from the OP's post.
