You can make a simple pigeon trap.

4'X4' 3 feet high. chicken wire.

Then make a hole 1 1/2 feet off the ground in the side. and make a cone like in a minnow trap facing in.

Put a plank up to the cone they go up through the cone jump down in your cage for your bait seed and can't get out. Then do what you have to do with them.

I used a cheap Daisy Powerline 860 for shots of 20-40 feet (ground to house eves). Buy some good lead pellets. Steel BBs were ineffective. I was living in a quiet neighborhood so tried to be discreet and stay in my own yard behind a privacy fence. Pigeons are nasty filthy birds. I was successful in discouraging their presence. Now I live in the country and my problem is ground squirrels.

Pigeons are tougher than you think. When I lived in the city I used to shoot them off my neighbors roof,about 10 yards away. Hit them square in th chest. After a big poof of feathers they would fly off. After a few weeks of this I was talking to a neighbor about 5 houses from mine and he asked if I was finding dead pigeons in my yard because he was getting 4 or 5 everyday. I wonder if he ever figured it out .

I'd say get a Crosman .22. either in the 2260 model CO2 or one like this one pictured below. It is a little over budget, but good to 80 yards shooting 18 grain JSB Exact Heavy's.

This is my Benjamin/Crosman Discover with TKO muzzle brake and TF scope (which has been superb for a Chinese bundle scope) w/Mil-Dot lit reticle. It is a 2000 PSI PCP or 1000 PSI CO2 duel fuel rifle. Shoots like a .22 LR. These do not have any weird recoil that make you learn to shoot your air rifle different than your firearms.

The Daisy .22 caliber SG model I once owned and shot out would kill large birds out to 30-35 yards. It was around $100 at Academy. I don't know if they make this model any longer.

I'd say get a Crosman .22. . . . the 2260 model CO2

I've got one of those. I like it for quick follow up shots compared to a pump or a break barrel. Put some pellets in your pocket or get a belt pouch or a stock ammo holder and you're all set.

You can even tune the trigger like shown here.

The only thing quicker would be a repeater, in my experience.

Mine is set up more specifically for rat duty, but it will still do for small birds if needed.

Our family "flying rat" killer is a crossman 2100 10 pump with the flat nose pellet .177.

Works if you do your part. Head shots or just below where the neck attaches.

Well I have a similar problem all I can tell you is a red rider won't work the bb just bounces off I have yet to try it with the 880 yet
