When forced to choose a replacement for my pet coyote rifle, I picked a .308 BAR DBM. It's been several months in the making, but other than rechecking zero, I believe its good to go.
48694289556_3beb28892a.jpg The rifle was too long for my short arms so I had to choose a different scope that would mount close enough for proper eye relief and even then had to cut the stock about 1/2" since Browning did not supply a thinner pad for the DBM.:( Worked up a decent load but had to have an adjustable cheek piece installed to achieve a decent cheek weld. Believe that will further shrink my groups.

I doubt zero has been affected by removal of buttstock; not sure about remove/replace forend?? Hope to be able to get to a range before long to see.

Looks awesome! Cool rifle. 308 Win is a lot of cartridge for little doggies but will do for just about anything else as well. Enjoy.

Hey looks good.
Thanks, Troy. Worked up a load w/110 Varmageddons that I was shooting two separate POI 5 shot groups. Would put three or 4 in one hole and throw one or two out about an inch or so at 10-11 o'clock consistently before I cut the stock and added cheek piece. I think the fliers were shooter error due to no cheek weld; we'll see once I get to the range again.

Sighted it in so cloverleaf was 1" high @ 100.
Called shot cutting vertical line high left, shot one more
shot for 5 shot group. VVV

I used 243 WSSM w/100 gr. Nos. solid base bullets for coyotes and, at same time, culled whitetails/hogs for rancher on his ranches for years. Had to switch rifles and thought about a 243 Win. but 308 was as close as I could get in semi auto. With 110s the 308 trajectory it is very close to the 243; 125's are pretty close, as well.

You're right, Doc; a lot more rifle than you need for coyotes, but fur no good down here and the 6mm (and 308) reaches out and hammers them.

Thanks, Jeff.

Your set up will do it's job on anything it is shot at.

A guy out here that I bought some 380 brass from goes out to one of the Dakotas for paraie dods shoot a 223. He sighted his custom rifle in at 200 yards and got it grouped in at 200 yards.
He then annealed some cases and loaded them up exactly the same and the pattern was cut in half.

Once I get my deer hunting rifles dialed in I will have him anneal some cases and shoot them again and see what happens.

Have fun with the varmits and stay safe.

Brass has lots to do with accuracy. Annealing would change neck tension on bullet one way or the other. Did it affect his POI, as well?

I haven't worked with two piece stocks since the '50's and that was w/92-94's and iron sights. Didn't worry all that much about groups back then. Started measuring groups on target rifles, both bolt gun and service rifles used in competition, but those, of course, were one piece stocks and they were bedded. Even then, they were checked for POI after removal from stock. Mostly not affected, but POI w/some of my one piece stocked hunting rifles need some fine tuning if removed from stock. IDK about the BAR, but we'll find out one of these days. Hopefully sooner, rather than later.:)

Thanks, horseman. That would be a sweet combination!
