Well, it started this weekend when i had some friends over for a movie at my place to celebrate college break. Eventually, conversation turned to guns (always does, with the glass-doored gun case there for everyone to see) I was BS'in with one of my gunny buddies about one thing or another when a gal thats always been a rather loud anti (the "scared of guns" kind) comes over and starts asking questions! as groups will, everyone just kinda gravitated over that direction and gun talk took over everones attention. By the end of the night the mentioned anti actualy ASKED me to take her shooting sometime! right about then, another one of the ladies in attendance mentions that we all have the next afternoon off and its supposed to be just gorgeous out, and perfect for a little range time. plans are made, and everyone is happy.

Monday afternoon rolls around, and its a sunny, mild 74* out, which was just PERFECT. i loaded up all my fave toys up in my truck along with enough ammo and targets to keep em fed, and when everyone was finaly there we offroaded it to my fave little spot on the edge of a wood hill out in the back 40. Got the "anti" aqainted with the saftey rules and such, and turned her loose with my mk2 and eventualy a colt python with .38 spl loads. she LOVED it! cans, longneck bottles, paper silouettes, pumpkins, they all fell to the wrath of the former anti armed with whatever was handed her! turned out to be a great day at the range, and converted at 2 on-the-fencers over to rabid gun nuts! best part of the whole thing was today when i was doing homework, the phone rings and its the antis friend, calling to ask if we can go shooting one more time before class starts again! (and of course, i took her!)

PS, now that i think of it, we went through about 250 rnds of .38 spl yesterday!!!

thanks Y'all

Natedog, the "anti" actually was very against at one point, i've offered to take her shooting before, and she was very opposed. Whatever the change, it was for the better and its nice to have another person to share my hobby with. funny enough, the silouette (sp??) she shot up with my python is currently hanging on her dorm wall and another on her door, i can't wait to hear what the RA has to say about it

Hopefully, the RA is an anti-gun as well.

Nothing like being told what you can't do, and the following resentment to really bring them over to the Loud Side (I was gonna say Dark Side. :D )

Now THAT is a great day at the range! Way to go!

Good job! Logic and statistics? Naw, just show 'em how fun it is:D .

Oh and SaxonPig: I agree about the bottles, except in garbage dumps or similar places. There, it's both appropriate and FUN!

Guys, it is important that we remember something here...

The subject in question wasn't really an "anti." She was an "ignorant," in that she didn't know anything about firearms, so she was scared of 'em. It is important that we do not alienate the "ignorants." They can EASILY be won over to our side.

It's the hardcore "antis" that take a lot more work. The folks who see firearms as a philosophical no-no, rather than as something that they just don't understand.

:D

no pics at the moment, i'm gona try and snag some from one of the gals that was there, but i personaly didn't get any, my parents digital cam decided it wasn't going to work and yeah.....

Bottles, i don't worry too much about em. the place i shoot is only frequented by my shooting buddies and me, and its out of the way enough that the only people broken glass would inconvience would be developers, and thats only if hell freezes over and we sell the farm:barf: . that aside, the fun factor is only increased for a noob, because a big reaction like that is way more entertaining than punching paper.

i think the best targets i brought were the pumpkins. after lighting one of them up with a .357, everyone that didn't shoot much understood how powerfull guns can be, and i had little or no saftey issues there out. exploding squash comunicates respect real well

good times, with all the enthusiasm, we've planned a pumpkin shoot for this saturday afternoon! if any of you THR guys are near lorain county, ohio, feel free to drop me a pm and i'll give ya directions

Ukraine Train- I goto community college, because for the moment, i havent figured out what i want to do with my life. trying to decide between some sort of military service/ROTC, or just picking a major and doing the college thing. some of the others home for the weekend were from toledo U, malone college, and bowling green.

bogie- very true, but show either of em how fun it is and its all downhill from there i've found.
