I purchased the CZ SP-01 Tactical this week so I took it for the first shoot today. I also took along my H&K P-30 to compare. I expected the CZ to be more accurate because of the weight but they're both good guns. I shot only WWB 115 gr. ammo. right from Wal-Mart. I made my own targets at home (photoshop.pdf) and shot those at about 7yds. When I first saw the gun at the store, it was pretty oily on the outside and I expected the same inside, so before I went to the range I disassembled it at home. Surprisingly, it was pretty dry inside so I gave it a little oil on the rails and re-assembled it.
The good news: I never had a FTF or FTE on any round. Every round fired. I was more accurate with the CZ than the H&K. The grip on the SP-01 felt good as far as the diameter and reach to the trigger. I have to say that the grip is so long, my left hand (support) didn't know exactly where to go. I didn't feel I had much support. A lot of shots were low and left, and usually with me that's a grip thing. The other mental thing is that when I go to the range saying I'm going to put a hundred rounds through the gun, I lose concentration and accuracy. I was surprised that a few rounds ejected straight back at me, maybe 1 in 20. (Don't shoot with your mouth open, you could literally catch one.) I attribute that to the WWB. I have read that the CZ likes a little stronger ammo, and perhaps the slide doesn't cycle fast enough to fling the empty hard to the right. But every round did eject.
After a couple of magazines, I tried the de-cocker and it was fine. I like the half cocked stop. I fired from the D/A trigger and it's a long, hard pull. Probably won't do that too often.
All in all, a good start. Absolutely no failures, now I've got to work on the accuracy.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Good job! I took my new 40B out this weekend and the thing was throwing brass at least twenty feet, probably closer to thrity.

But they weere all off to the right, nbever in my face.

Enjoy the CZ, it will grow on you, and except for the long take up they are basically perfect pistols.

The grip on the SP-01 felt good as far as the diameter and reach to the trigger.

My SP-01 Tactical is also very comfortable in my hand, like it was tailor-made. The size/weight and round are a great combination – for me a really tight grip is not needed. Run a box or two of S&B ammo through it for a good work-out and a big smile on your face. ;)

Congratulations and enjoy! :)

it'll grow on you. after about 500 rounds the trigger will smoothen out.

the factory recoil spring imo is on the strong side.

left support hand should be as high as possible, where your index finger should be against the bottom of the trigger guard.

the long DA pull is part of what i believe is good for hammer down carry.

out of curiosity, did yours come with night sights?

Yes. When I put it away in the safe, they were glowing. The manual says Meprolights. They look about the same as on my Springfield.
I don't think they do anything at the range, but they sure jump out in the dark. I wish I had 'em on all mine, but some don't justify the $.

By the way, do you cross your thumbs? Or keep them parallel and facing the front? I tried putting my left index finger on the front of the trigger guard, but it was too far a reach.
I'm sitting at the computer with the CZ and trying all these things so I describe them accurately
Just having my left hand over my right doesn't seem to lock them together very well.
Damn, I have to work on taxes tomorrow, otherwise I'd go back to the range.

My CZ PCR grip has made me screw up shooting with my new FNP9-m, I keep decocking it mid stroke since I am used to resting my right thumb on top of my left thumb, which coincides exactly with the decocker on the FNP.

from the right side, this is how your hands should look. strong hand as high as possible, left hand as high as possible. this brings the barrel as low as possible to control recoil the best.

both thumbs should point towards the target. when the gun snaps up and your follow-through is there, the gun will snap back down right into the same spot.

todd jarrett has a good video on pistol shooting on youtube that goes over the proper grip.

shoot the bejeezus out of your gun... but don't even try shooting it while not in the proper grip. you don't want to build bad habits. :)

The night sights are definitely cool, I think every gun should come with them. My rear sight says "Tru Dot" on the side.

Im left handed and shoot my SP-01 high and right, but for the most part they stayed in at least the 9ring when I took the time to aim correctly.

At first I didnt realize how hard you need to push the decocker to make it work, but I got that figured out now. I like the decocker better than safety. I dont use the DA much either, SA for accuracy.

I occasionally get hit with brass too. I shot my XD after I shot the CZ so I cant remember which gun hit me the most. I had a couple red(burn) marks on the inside of my right elbow from hot brass bouncing off. Some of the brass was at my feet(the ones that hit me), and I dont know where the rest of it went. I shoot outside on the grass. Alot of what I picked up was from previous shooting.

I spoke with the people at Wolff gun springs yesterday. They told me that if a semi-auto is tossing empties farther than 10 or so feet away the recoil spring may be worn or too weak.
If it doesn't bother you any though, no worries.

It is brand new, braided recoil spring. Definitely not too weak, it is stiff as a board.
