I have a SMITH & WESSON 686-1 w/ a 4 inch barrel w/ large L-Frame Walnut grips. I would like to top it off w/ a scope or aiming device of some type. Upon completion, I don't want to have created a 'BRICK' that shoots.

I have a RUGER Super RedHawk in 44 mag w/ a 7.5 inch barrel, w/ HOGUE Grips. I mounted a BOSH & LOMB scope, now instead of a pistol, it's a good-lookig brick that shoots real good, and loud too. You need to prop it up to shoot it, but is very accurate. Setting up a shot is slooooow, but when you drop the hammer, it is on the money.

Any suggestions?

Any ideas on grips with / or without a scope, grip types - does it matter??

Do you want magnification? How bout a red dot of some sort? A little lighter and maybe quicker.

King,
I have the same gun since new, also a 2" model. I think the problem is that these era guns are not drilled and tapped. I would like to do the same as my eyes aren't what they used to be (50!). Don't know if I could bring myself to having the gun drilled. :uhoh:

Interested to see how you make out. Please keep us posted.

I stand corrected. My guns are no dash - first generation, your -1 may be tapped. Sorry for any confusion

The 686-4 models should be the first ones to come drilled and tapped from the factory.

A red dot would be the least bulky way to go. On my 6" 686-4 I have used a 2X Leupold which is about as small as a pistol scope gets.

I just can't do it

Thanks everyone - I think S&W made one classic revolver here. It is totally stock, I think it will remain that way.

I would like to update the grips.
