Hello fellow high roaders,

So I've never reloaded anything aside from just a few .357 loads that were done by hand with one of those lee loaders. and that was basically just for fun.

I recently bought an H&R handi rifle in .357 and I find myself wanting to get really tight with it. That said, Id like to start loading my own rounds for it so I can really control it. Ive read in places that well cast lead bullets can be very accurate, and I do plan on taking that route to be more cost effective.

What load would y'all suggest for reaching out to 100 yrds? I know part of the joys of reloading is experimenting with it, but where should I start?

Thanks!
Jumbo Jimbo.

Along with MBC, take a look at SNS Casting, Bayou Bullets and Falcon Bullets for coated and lead bullets. I've used bullets from all of them, and all are good products and have good customer service.

Thanks for asking our advice

Get some reloading books.

And a scale.

Even if you stick with the Lee Loader, having the ability to weigh your charges frees you up from the tyranny of the single dipper provided in the Lee Loader and will allow you to choose from a wide variety of powders and power levels for which you will find the recipes in the many fine manuals available to you.

Tell us of your needs, please.

If you do decide to go with a press rather than staying with the Lee Loader, you have many choices, but DO get a scale and Manuals.

Choices for presses range from Lee's Hand Press. Lee Challenger, RCBS Partner, RCBS RockChucker, Redding, Hornady etc., and, of course, the REALLY excellent Forster. Then there are turret presses.

But we could target our advice better if you shared some information about yourself: (What I use has no relevance to you if our needs are not similar.)

So, I have some questions for you before I can be more specific.

Will you be reloading for anything other than .357?

What quantities will you be reloading for those calibers? (Per month)

How much time will you be willing to devote to those quantities?

How large of production runs before swapping calibers?

What is your budget for the initial purchase? (Not components, just the equipment)

Will you want to get your entire setup at once or, after an initial setup that does all you need, add accessories and conveniences as your experience suggests and finances permit?

Will you be putting your gear away after each session or leave it set up permanently?

How much space will you devote permanently to a loading area, if any?

Do you want it to be portable?

What are your shooting goals? Of course, you said you are interested in getting maximum accuracy, but these are my generic questions for any new (or expanding) loader. Cheap ammo? Ultimate long-range accuracy? Casual plinking, Serious competition - what kind? Cowboy Action Shooting? Strictly hunting? Personal defense? Skills development?
