Tough cap

My missus did laundry today. She handed me a CCI #11 cap that had been in a shirt pocket, gone through a complete wash cycle and dryer cycle, and she saw it loose in the dryer tub.

I took it to the garage, put it on a Ruger Old Army nipple, and it went bang just like it was fresh out of the container.

Gotta say I was impressed.

Dang, I had no idea those were that tough. I certainly would have thought the wash/dry would have killed it.

That is very strange. In all the cap-n-ball revolver water-proofing tests, it's always the caps that are killed by the water. ?? Does not seem to get in the chambers, as a fresh cap always fires them off. ? Maybe it was "Super Cap"?

I doubt a Remington cap would have done that. It would have washed the compound out of it.

Those caps got bounced around pretty well, what a ride, but I’m inferring they stayed dry.

Soaking in water in a Diet Coke bottle for an hour:



Dried the cap with a hair dryer:



Loaded it:



Results:

I bought a snail capper at a flea market. It had 9 caps in it. I suspect they were Remington. I had no idea how old they were but they all set off the charge

Reliable yes, definitely. However, after seeing this picture, cannot call them tough.

Kinda off topic but I didn't want to start a new thread on it. I decided to do a water test between Remington and CCI caps. I knew I had a tin or two of Remington caps somewhere. I started going through possibles bags but didn't find them. I finally found them in one of my junk boxes. Brand new still in the blister pack. While I was going through possibles bags I found these from when I hunted with a .50 cal. I think they're Ox-Yoke but not sure as I haven't used bought patches since the late 80's or early 90's. They're still slightly oily feeling and they will leave an oily film on your fingers. They do have a little odor to them but you can't call it rank and you have to get your nose fairly close to them to smell it. I have one of each of the caps in marked bottles of water. in an hour or so or whenever I happen to remember them I'll test them.

I left the caps soaking for about an hour and a half. I didn't dry them I just blew out the standing water. Both caps failed to fire. The Remington left the nipple plugged with priming compound. The CCI nipple was clean. CCI on the right.



I couldn't get a really good pic of the plugged nipple but if you look close you can see it. The CCI nipple is the next one down.

well my washer only uses about an ounce of water to "wash" a load so I bet the caps could make it through.
