Im thinking about trying to trade my Glock. I have a G23 that I use for my carry piece. I bought this gun when I was looking for a G19....the 23 had night sights for the same price. I love my G23, but I like 19s more.

I like the G23 because it has night sights and if I get hired for the police department (my interview is tommorrow morning...wish me luck), it would use the same mags as my duty G22.

I want a G19 because I shoot them more accurately and can get on target faster. Ammo is also cheaper making practice cheaper. I believe the 9mm is plenty and it holds two more rounds.

So do you guys think I should keep my G23 or try and trade for a G19?

Also, there is NO way I can afford to just buy a G19.

Keep the 23 and save your pennies for a 19. You should be able to find a good used 19 fairly cheap if you look hard enough (gun shows, internet, local shop?).

Take it from someone who has traded a lot of pistols. I wish I had some of the ones I traded away back.

BTW I have never bought a new handgun and it has saved me thousands over the years. Everything pre-owned. Just got to know what to look for to make sure you are buying a good gun.

I say keep the 23 and save for the 19 too (if possible). 23 is a great gun and the 19 is better for practicing with the Glock trigger and paying less for ammo.

Listen to mosttoys wins, I've only bought one pistol new and that was my first one. Guess what happened ??? I lost a couple of hundred dollars on it and was a little upset when I sold it.

Since then I've bought several pistols and they have all been used. My most recent purchase sells new for $750 and I bought mine for $400, it was almost new and in perfect condition. It takes awhile longer to find a good used one but when you do it's well worth it.

My last Glock purchase was a Glock 27 that a buddy of mine bought new in Aug. of 05. He didn't like the trigger and bought a HK ups40 so I enjoyed all of the benefits of his experiment and got the pistol on a killer deal.

He sold me the G27 with 4 standard mags, 2 G23 mags with extension pieces, 2 holsters (one is a nice Galco IWB) and night sights for $400. He only put 300 or so rounds through it and i know he had over $600 into it.

There's no reason you should pay over $400 for a great used G19. You may find a 2nd gen for $350 even but that's about the cheapest I've seen them.

I voted keep the G23 since you will probably carry a Glock .40 for work. It makes sense for you to shoot the same caliber for home defense and work. You may want to consider trading the 23 for a 27, and carry the 27 at work as a BUG. You can also use the G27 as a home defense weapon.

P.S. I say all this loving the G19; I own one myself.

I voted to trade for a G19. I had a G23 and now have a G19. After taking some pistol classes, I am an animal with my G19. I can also get 1000 rounds of 9mm at Academy Sports for right at 100.00. However if you get on the department, your G22 will almost be one in the same with your G23. Same gun just a little bigger. In that case, I'd recommend getting a G27 as a back up gun due to mag interchangability.

Flip.

Well, I'm just the opposite of 10-Ring. I prefer the .40 to 9mm, have and enjoy the G23. I voted keep the G23 ... and save up for a 19 if you must have one.

if you get hired as a LEO, you can get new glock 19's for about $400 from certain stores that do law enforcement deals. My brother is a cop, and bought me a G26 for that price.
