Hey y'all, I have an egyptian Rasheed carbine I've decided I want to sell or trade out for a different addition to my collection. I've always really wanted a semi auto KP-31 carbine, but I don't have the required tooling to build my own, so if I did strive towards building one myself it would be a very expensive and difficult effort. I've found a guy on Armslist who is offering one for trade and he is looking to trade for another milsurp. He is including a drum mag and 6 stick mags as well. I'm not keeping the Rasheed long term anyways, but do y'all think this would be a reasonable trade on my end? Thanks!

I think you’d be getting the short end- look at what the two are getting sold for, realistically, and I’d get the difference in cash.
Those Suomi’s look neat BUT I’ve heard of issues with them, do some research. I think there are different generations and makes of them too, so that could be important...

I like my Suomi but if I had the choice of a Suomi and a Rasheed, side by side, I'd take the Rasheed... if I didn't take both.
The Suomi works OK with most stick mags, but you have to dial in the drums.
Also, expect to have to work on the Suomi's crappy trigger.

The Suomi is definitely a more historically significant weapon. It was a major factor in Finnish success, particularly during the motti fighting.

I don't think a semi auto 9mm carbine weighing over 10 pounds is a particularly practical weapon, but then again, I can't think of a single situation where a Rasheed would be my top choice either.

I will say that I'd want to handle and fire the Suomi before I made a trade like that.

Id keep the Rasheed.

Those big, heavy 9mm rifles like the Uzi and Soumi lose their appeal quickly in my experience. An AR9 is alot cheaper, more practical (and fun).

You might consider listing the Rasheed here. Lots of folks on THR appreciate them for what they are.
I hadn't realized you could list things on here, I may well have to do so. The Rasheed just isn't in my preferred timeframe to collect from. The only reason why I bought it in the first place was because it was an insanely good deal, too good to pass up. I'm just more of a WW1 and 2 kind of guy for the most part, and though the rasheed uses WW2 era rifle design it's more of a cold war gun. It would be a whole different story if there were easily modified larger mags for it though!

I'm of Finnish descent, and a fan of Finnish weapons, and even I would probably pass on the semi-Suomi. I've heard too many negative things about the semi-auto kit builds, which is too bad, as the original was an excellent weapon.

Get what ever makes you happy. You don't need use to tell you. If you and the person you are trading with are happy. That's all that matters.

I had to google a rasheed since im new to this. Added it to my list to get one
Back in the early 90s, before the internet was really a thing, you would see Rasheeds tucked into corners of racks at the gunshows, collecting dust with $200-300 on the tag. Folks didnt realize how rare they were, and brand new in the box Norinco SKS were stacked 20 deep all over the place for $85-90, so the Rasheed seemed like an interesting, but not really desirable oddity for the money.

Now, of course, things are different!

I almost bought a semi auto Suomi, but everything I’ve heard, people have said they’ve regretted the purchase. Whether it be malfunctions from the conversion, or not fun to shoot. 9mm out of an 11 pound gun with extremely soft recoil even in full auto has to feel like a 22lr in semi.

I would like a Rasheed though

Got one of the 9mm Suomi carbines and it runs like a top.
But Jesus is it honking heavy.
Heavy enough that I only take it out a couple of times a year.
There's almost no recoil to her though.
Heavier than any of my 7.62 rifles.
Heavier than my IAB sharps rifle
Heavier than my 300 win mag Laredo
Heavier than any of my M1's or M1a

I think the main thing to take away is that its freaking heavy.

You'll love the SVT, ONCE you get the gas system dialed in. Until then it'll be a game of pop goes the weasel of did it eject or feed.
Once its in its a wonderful rifle.

I'm sorry, just wasn't clear on your post..... Is the Suomi heavy?
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I've noticed in pictures of armed forces over the years that the guns get smaller and lighter and the packs get bigger and heavier. In some of those WWI and even WWII packs a change of socks, underwear and a can of foot powder and it's full.

Svt40 are neat rifles. It’s a weird setup on the stock, but the scoped “sniper” rifles are really really cool looking. I have never had the pleasure to get behind one. Very cool though.

I will hopefully shoot it soon, my preferred range is closed till june though :( I will post a few pics of the SVT soon!

Love my Suomi, and admire the Finns.

Before he died I got the great Don McClure to do a trigger job on it.

People don't believe it is a semi-auto because I can fire a 72 round drum in just over 15 seconds, and the weight helps it stay on target.
I have 3 drums and 6 sticks and it hasn't jammed yet.
