My son and his friend want to trap them an sell them to a guy for $50. apiece. Sounds too good to be true to me, but that's what the kids tell me.

They guy is going to buy the trap too. Any pointers on trapping them?

Now I'm wondering if I'm missing out on some really good meat?

Live trap. I think it's legal in fl as they aren't game animals. I'll have to contact them to make sure it's legal to sell them though.

I saw something a few months back on tv about nutria (whats the plural) in FL (I believe). Something to the extent of they reproduce like bunnies and the local pd had a supressed .22 they would hunt them from the back of a truck at night. I don't know if that helps any but the jist I got was that they did not want them there.

I read that the market was pretty strong for their fur a few years back, due to Russian demand**, but has since dramatically fallen off due to their economy or something.

**It seems that Russian women deem the 'rat hats' to be a coveted luxury item, or at least used to.

I checked the NAFA auction results for March 2010 and found prices has risen considerably thanks to China and Russia. There is no listing for nutria but muskrat average over $9.00! Even if taking nutria this time of year is legal I would think the fur is less than favorable at this time. I wonder about the $50 ea price tag. <http://www.nafa.ca/auction/archive/NAFA_2010-03-23_WF_Detailed_USD.pdf>

The guy want's them for the meat. I've heard of people eating them, I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on some good meat?

I have a friend who eats them like they're going out of style. He keeps wanting me to try them but kashrut laws are pretty clear on eating rats haha.
