I may have to drive through Illinois from KY to MO, and I will be towing a travel trailer. As we all know, a firearm has to be in pieces, locked in a vault, etc. My question is whether I can transport a LOADED firearm through the state in the travel trailer? . I know, I should call IL cops, but does anyone know?

Thanks, but I did not see anything about the firearm being in a travel trailer while being transported. Since they show no exception, I suppose that I will have to assume that a loaded firearm in a travel trailer being towed through the state would be illegal.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.

Funny and all, but there are usually oddball exceptions, and since the gun would not be in my vehicle or on my person, it's possible that it is exempt. I am just looking for a bit of constructive knowledge here. I do know that if I call IL they will tell me to destroy my guns and get counseling before visiting.

Actually, I knew it. Just thought I would ask. I lived in that awful place (actually born there), and I generally drive around it, but this time going to St. Louis, MO I will have to travel diagonally across the state. I really hate to be on the road with only my imposing 68 year old physique to ward off the highwaymen.

I was hauling some stuff and firearms in an enclosed, locked trailer through IL so I called the ISP to check on the law they said it still had to be in a case and unloaded.

Just out of curiosity, what difference could it make to you if it were loaded or unloaded since it has to be out of your reach and locked up? SD isn't part of the equation, so....?

What is the point of having it loaded if it is in a trailer where you can't get to it in a hurry? The only time you need a loaded gun is when you are in a hurry. It might as well be on Mars.

Simple answer to loaded in trailer is that when we stop for a break or nap at a rest area we are exposed to a higher danger area. If I have a loaded gun in that trailer I will be breaking IL law.

Have you ever been broken down on the side of a road? If you are waiting out help then chances are you will want to be in the trailer, but since you are actually on the highway, I think that having a loaded gun in the trailer probably is also illegal.

Finally, I might have a chance to get to a gun in the trailer if forced off the road, but maybe not be able to load it. Maybe my wife could get to it while I am otherwise occupied.

I asked a simple question re carrying a loaded firearm in a travel trailer in a restrictive state. I received that answer from someone who has actually researched it. I did not request any logic excercises as to why I want to use my RKBA.

Thanks
