I am looking at getting a new treestand. I have not hunted from one in 5 years and have not bought one in twice that time. I went to Bass Pro Shops today and the only thing I really found out is my new Chevy 1500 is getting 21 MPG highway:D. So I thought I would get recommendations from you guys.
Here is my situation. I had back surgery a couple years ago, but my back has been doing well lately. However, I need a comfortable seat and this is my most important concern. I also need something that folds and packs well. I am also looking for something that has a gun rest option. I have looked at the Summit, Loggy Bayou MEGA Transformer, and the Tree Lounge. I am not sure how comfortable the seats would be on the Summit, but that style is the going thing now days with most tree stands. The tree lounge looks very comfortable, but it is on the heavy side. There is going to be a deer hunting show next weekend that I am going to go check out too. So what is your best stand and why?

I have a couple of Summit's, and they are well made. I also own one of the cheaper Loggy Bayou's and that too is constructed well. The only one on your list that I personally would steer away from is the Tree Lounge. The three days I spent hunting out of one in Maine, left me with lower back pain like you wouldn't believe. They are incredibly comfortable for about an hour, then watch out. Almost any of the name brand stands are good. As for packing and weight, just check the specs before you buy it. Almost all of them fold flat. Also, invest in a pair of padded backpack straps to carry it. They're much more comfortable than the cheap straps that usually come packaged with the stands.

Thanks for the tip on the Tree Lounge. I was leaning that way until your comment. I think I will be going with the Summit Goliath X5 Treestand just to get the extra room on the seat. It does not fold flat, but it looks to fit together well for packing into the woods.

I just bought two used Old Man climbing tree stands at $150 for both of them.

I think I did alright, from what I understand, they retail for $200 or so, each. Pretty nice, steel construction, fairly comfortable, and they climb pretty well.

Sounds like you got a good buy on them.
Another Stand that has caught my eye is the API Grand Slam Star Extreme. I really like the gun rest on it. It seems like I have hear bad things about API though.

Ol' Man makes Great stands. I have the Grand Vision, but I think they have newer models out now. Very comfortable, folds almost flat, easy to climb with, nice gun rest.

Make sure you spend a fair amount of time figuring out exacly how the stand works. You want to minimize the number of clips screws, etc. that you have to deal with. Think, "How easy will this be to set up in the dark, without losing important pieces?"

i like

my Tree Lounge, and the optional wheels would help with the weight, but i have no back problem and could see where it could be uncomfortable if you do.

Summit Viper XLS. Not sure they are still making it, but if they are it's a great stand. I have had mine for the past couple of years and it is as quiet and comfortable as it was when I bought it. The only downside is that it does not pack flat.
