I was considering picking up another Savage Model 10, and I love the accu trigger for a factory trigger, but I really like triggers in the 1 lb range. I'm wondering if I do get another one if I should get the Stevens 200 and put an aftermarket trigger in it. I know I can polish and clip the spring on the accu trigger and get it down close to 1lb, but then they often seem to have issues if you close the bolt hard. So I was hoping to avoid that, and just wondered what my options for an aftermarket trigger for the Stevens 200 would be so that would allow me to adjust the trigger this low.

My buddy just put a Timney trigger in his Stevens. I don't know the exact weight but it is a VERY light pull. I think he had it adjusted all the way down.

I use Timney triggers in mine.. very nice and easily adjustable. Simple install also. Some guys like the Basix triggers too. Best $100 you can spend if trying to shrink your groups.

Rifle Basix, easy install, can be found around $80 if you wait & shop. In the mean time (whew...operating from memory here!)just turn the little screw that the spring goes into. If you disassemble the action from the stock you'll see what I'm talking about

good luck!

I have a Stevens 200 in a .308 and have a timney trigger in it. I can get it down to a pound and a half. If I try to go lighter it wants to slam fire when closing the bolt. So thats where it stays. I put a timney in another stevens 200 that belongs to a friend and it will go to just under a pound and not slam fire. How ever we decided to put it back to a pound and a half also as we think this might be the ragged edge. I would advise you to be very cautious with these triggers. You need to test the rifle thoroughly. Try bumping the butt of the rifle on the ground to see if it fires and use a fired case all so, as it will bump fire easier with a case in the chamber as oposed to an empty chamber.
