I’ve figured out 99% of the rifle type for my kids for next fall, now it’s time for a sight

I’ve looked at most of the options available (Burris, vortex, bushmell, leupold, sig, nightforce....) and the Trijicon seem to fit the role best

light weight, illuminated reticle, decent glass, and not super expensive

i can get the 2.5-10x in either for less than $700, the accupower is $150 cheaper than the accupoint

I already have a mount for either, so mounting is not factored into the price

Accupower uses batteries, accupoint uses tritium and fiber optic.
Between those two, what’s your thought or experience?

I have an accupoint on a light SCAR.

My dad didn't buy me pricey hunting gear. "You want to eat rabbit? Then learn to throw a rock better."

I’m spoiling my kids I know, but it’s fun. I want their hunting tools to also be really fun to shoot at a range, maybe eventually they will shoot prs with me

how do you like the scope? Clear? Nice eye box/comfortable to get behind?

Having had two girls that started at 8 and 9 in the deer woods, the best thing for a child learning the basics is to not have to worry about an eye relief. The buck fever and adrenaline will be Murphy at his finest when brown walks out and they try to get on it. The best I’ve found has been an AR in 300 blk, 110g hornady gmx load, with a simple red dot. I don’t let them hunt beyond 50 yards. It has been so successful thus far that I’m thinking of graduating one up to longer shots and a longer range rig for next year. It will require a full summer of practice and proof to old dad that it’s obtainable.

after seeing what this specific round does to whitetail at this range, I wouldn’t discount it as my own hunting setup. It leaves nothing to be desired.

I won a 3-9x40 AccuPoint in an Optics Planet drawing in 2015. The illumination wasn’t as bright as I expected, especially compared to a VX-R 2-7x33 I have. The glass quality was good, I’d guesstimate on par with a Meopta made Zeiss Conquest I have. But the illumination wasn’t bright enough for me so I sold it and bought a TV with the proceeds. The TV has been great. Before I made the decision to sell I went to Cabela’s and looked at a couple of AccuPoints to make sure my scope wasn’t defective. Same issue. It could just be my eyes and most people won’t have difficulty with the illumination. In fact I suspect it’s just me because I haven’t read anything about other people having the same issue.

Many people put very cheap scopes on their kid’s rifles. I don’t agree with that but don’t see the need to go to the other end of the spectrum either. Unless of course money isn’t an issue. One of my kids got a Fullfield II 2-7x35, the other got a Bushnell Elite 2-7-32.

Like my Accupoint. No batteries. Only drawback is when shooting from a darkened area into bright sunlight. Washes out the triangle a little, just not to be unusable.

First, will you adopt me?

i admire your choice. A path I took with my wife...the system has to be more accurate than she...

buy the best you can, train them well...the problem with kids (spouses), you do not not find out how they turn out, until after they turn out....

enjoy everything until then

@cdb1 interesting...I plan on getting one with a full crosshair so the illumination during bright sunlight is not needed

@beeenbag, my 7yr old hates red dots, even at 25yds. She shoots her 22 frequently with a 4-16 vortex pst, I have it adjusted so it fits her like a glove from a verity of positions and my plan is for an Ar15 and I will mount the scope to her short length of pull and eye relief, it will be her rifle

I would bet on 50 yds or less but I’m moving next spring and don’t know where I’m going to be hunting yet so I can’t predict shot ranges we’ll. Where I hunt in Kentucky most shots are less than 40 yds, even for adults, then hills and woods work that way. I don’t have family near where I’m heading (Jacksonville, FL)

@rabid wombat i can’t adopt a grown man, sorry. If your in my neck of the woods I’d be glad to shoot or hunt with you though, and yes you can play with my toys
