Trimming Cases and the Carbon Ring

I would agree with you and add that trimming .020 short of SAMMI minimum is plenty safe. I’ve bought new 308 brass that measured around 1.95
I actually go the other direction because I feel the longer neck I have the more options it gives me for seating depth and hopefully being able to stay north of the neck shoulder junction. I trim every time and try to stay right at Sammi max.

I understand what you’re trying to do. I can’t say it’s wrong either, I just don’t see where trimming an extra .005 or .010 is going to affect seating depth , necks are plenty long enough to jam .030 and still have the pressure ring deep in the neck yet above the neck shoulder junction. With the Ackley improved I only trim once every 7-8 reloads, it’s crazy that the cases just don’t grow very fast, my non ackleys I trim more often but still shorter then saami minimun.
Good conversation either way.

I'd sure like to try an Ackley at some point. I just got into my first not so wild cat cartridge with 6x45. The rumors I've herd is 30-30 gets the best performance enhancement. Don't really need more from that cartridge, but I have plenty of brass to play with. The 280ai seems very nice, but nothing cheap about it!!!!
