My boss brought me a bag of old ammo today. He said it came from his recently deceased aunt's house cleaning. There was some different pistol ammo and a few boxes of shotgun ammo. I started looking through it tonight to see what treasure I had come upon. The best part of the sack full of shotgun shells was reading the old names on them. Here is some of what I read. See what labels you remember.

Remington Peters
Remington Peters Sureshot Power Piston
W-W Winchester Upland
Remington Express UMC Extra Long Range Kleanbore (these were 3 3/4 dram!)
Federal Monarch (These were paper shells)
Remington Victor Power Piston
Revelation (These were paper shells)
Federal Game Load with a duck engraved on the Brass

The Winchester box said " All New Plastic Mark 5" I know these aren't anything special other than some being shells I haven't seen in years. Just thought I would share my trip down memory lane.

The picture shows some samples I pulled from the boxes.

Nice cross section of American shotshell ammo history. I'm not a serious collector , but I have bought a few complete boxes of old shotshell ammo to someday put together a shadow box of the ammo my Dad, Grandfather, and I used in our early days. The designs on the brass were works of art in the old days. (30's thru 50's) You might be surprised what they are worth if they are complete boxes in good condition. Even the empty boxes are worth considerable coinage if they are in good condition. Personally I'd keep 'em and take 'em out and look at 'em now and then. :)

Old paper shells

If someone could bottle the smell of a just-fired paper shell, I'd be first in line to buy.

So many memories...

They did have a special smell. I wish the shell boxes were still a work of art. Like these I bought on gunbroker for my shadowbox project.
