What are the rules regarding temporary restraining order in other states?

Here in Hawaii, if you have a tro you have to turn in your guns and if you fail to do that the leo will take it away from you. What make it worse is you have to do the whole process again in acquiring back your firearm.

The reason I ask is I have a good friend of mine and I found out that this is what holding him back. Sad because it's not his fault, he is not the violent one but the wife. But she beat him to it.

As far as I know in Va you need to be convicted and then the rules are not clear on what needs to be done with the guns other than you can not buy amunition or firearms but actual possesion is not too clear.
