The last couple days I have been depriming my 9mm cases I have polished and stockpiled. I have never had issues with Magtech brass before, but have dozens of CBC cases were the primers either bulge or tear the top of the primer off.

It is almost like the primers were glued into the pockets! I planned to prime these cases by hand, so I can cull the cases with parts of primers left in the pockets. Not a huge problem since I won't be using my progressive to prime.

Has anyone else ran into this issue with CBC brass?

I have buckets of Magtech (CBC) brass, never had an issue with it???

For 9mm if it's not thousands, just recycle them. Life is to short;)

I don't have a problem with pitching the bad ones, but I can't prime on a progressive without hand sorting the whole bunch is all.

I never had issues with the Magtech before.

What do you tumble them in? Any additive?
Only the CBC brass or others also.
A friend gave me some 45 small primer brass that he had tumbled with lots of flitz. Don't know if there was some reaction but half of the primers were cororoded and did what you mention where only the cap would pop out and the rest of the primer stayed in the case. Nothing I could see was wrong with the brass. Only time this has happened to me.
I've never had any problems with CBC brass. Seems like OK Stuff.

I used either Lyman walnut or corn cob with perhaps Nufinish and mineral spirits at times. I did just start using the corn cob in this pail.

Maybe someone will come along and know if those additives will interact with the primer material.
I've tumbled tens of thousands of 9mm cases and have not ever had what you described. Biggest issue with 9 is the tigher Seller and Belloit cases and the super tight crimped WCC cases with a nato head stamp. CBC seems to just fit in with the rest.
I don't use any additive and "shiny" is not any concern as after matches we don't get much of our own brass back anyway. Just use walnut, corncob, rice, or some of the other media of what others use. Get the cases clean and you will be good.

I see you are in WI. My Wife is stuck up there due to the weather. Maybe the primers got damp and are frozen:D?(Yep, sure You betcha I lived up there also.

Sorry, I have no idea

Some of the CBC brass have the red sealer on the primers. This is like glue and can make them hard to deprime since they are crimped too. Once removed either use a primer pocket reamer or swage to clean up the pocket.

Rule3....not frozen yet, but very soon I suspect. ;)

None of the cases seemed to have sealant or crimps on the primer pockets. I will not bother to swage the pockets of these rejects. I have had WCC crimped brass that bulged the primers before, and now cull those out before depriming.

I never go over board on the Nufinish, mostly to hold the dust down a little. I can't imagine something non liquid creeping behind a seated primer, but right now that's the only thing that could make a little sense. ;)

I have problems with CBC brass as well, i believe the flashhole is smaller than other brands, and its pushed up my lee decapping stem several times annoyingly. Happens even when I tighten the snot out of the decappin stem, and when it pops up after that, youve got a bigger problem on your hands.:cuss:

but the ones that will decap are fine, means their flash hole isnt undersized or has been swaged out larger by the decapping stem. I do look out for em though and try to avoid em.
Same for Geco brass in 223, the flash holes are tiny

I've used quite a few of those, and also never had them seize up in the pocket like that. I wonder if maybe some of those have been reloaded before, and then maybe someone used something to seal the primers?
