I've seen this truglo 2x dot scope around, and I'm wondering if it's any good.
I'm asking because I do some of my shooting at an indoor range, and I'd like an optic that can do both longer and shorter ranges. Plus, it has a smaller dot than most cheaper dot sights. Does anyone have it? I looked on the net, and found some good and some bad opinions.

yup, i got one

i have one on my Ruger MK II 22/45 678slabside.... i love it!!! best reddot ive used, mostly because of the 2X magnification.

i am not a great pistol shooter, not very steady and bad eyesight, but this True Glo scope makes it possible for me to get little Pine Squirrels as far out as 25 yards. its clear, reliable, not too heavy and looks awesome.

i give it 2 thumbs up. -Eric

PS. i forgot to mention that it makes it very nice to shoot in early dawn and late dusk, the magnification and the clear dot work well in low light.

The tru-glow red dot is pure JUNK. The image is so distorted looking though one of these things it's a miracle you don't throw up. The 'fish eye" effect is so terrible it must be seen to be believed. the field of view is tiny.

If the optics quality was any worse the 2x red dot would be completely unusable

I've got one on a Walther G22. I had it on a Ruger GP100 but the lens cracked after 150 rounds. I sent it back and they sent a new one that I won't put on anything but a .22 now. The "dot" isn't round like what you would see in an Ultra Dot. Mine is an elongated dot but I know which end to shoot to. :)

As stated above, the optics aren't the best but you can find the focal point and it works OK for my use.

I don't think I'd buy another one.

Whats up with that?

 krochus & Kruzr, so, i have a question... i know you guys know your stuff, im not questioning that for sure. however, im wondering if; the one i got is a fluke, just happened to be manufactured well? you two just happened to get bad ones? or, as is true, im a neophyte and just dont know enough to see that its not a good scope?

seriously, im curious and kind of uneducated when it comes to red dots, so i dont want to go around recommending something to people that actually isnt a decent product. just seems strange to have my opinion and then your differing opinions. i am DEFINITELY NOT saying youre wrong! just trying to get educated. thank you very much - Eric

borrowedtime, the first red dot I got was an UltraDot. I got that one because most of the bullseye shooters I know said it was the one to go with. It holds up under recoil, has next to no parallax and has a clear round dot. I found they were right.

I then got an ATN Ultra Sight for the G22. It's also a good quality unit with good optic and dot and very quick to pick up.

The next red dot was a Doctor Optic. Same story about the optic and the clear round dot. We had put cheap red dots on a few of our rental guns at the range and I could easily tell the difference between those and the ones I had.

Then I got the Truglo for the .357. Even accounting for the 2x, the optics just aren't as clear as the others. The first one had an oblong dot projected. This is a result of distortion in the lens that the dot is being reflected on. This is the one that broke that lens inside the tube. The dot was then split and there were two spots (no longer dots) at different elevations. I called Trugo and sent it back for a new one.

The new and current one is the same in optic quality. The dot is almost a mini-banana but it's usable. I don't see the 2x magnification as much of a difference than a plain unmagnified red dot. But, it does fine on the .22 carbine.

Like most things, you get what you pay for in optics.
