True but I think it is actually more of citizens following political parties and electing people that are incompetent and untrustworthy. The playbook has been for each party to vilify the other and stop any problem-solving that makes the other look good. Seems the dumber and more corrupt they are, the more extremists embrace them in the primaries and that is who gets presented to the sane, moderate, pro-American, pro-Constitution voter. We need open primaries to elect people with knowledge of law and history and that have a moral compass. Besides mostly being part of an elite poltiical organization, our reps consist of uneducated young people with no leadership experience, liars and con-men that fake their resumes, old people that are not in their prime that don't have the energy for this type of leadership position, people elected for the sake of diversity, QAnon and other fantasy believers, cowards trying to teach others about manliness, the list goes on and on of the hypocrites we have in office. If we keep depending on our current political system to give us people that are competent and hold American values, then we are doomed.
They are obsessed with it because they always think about socialism. They think socialism is the key to a better system. And socialism has too much control and regulation. Conversely, capitalism is what creates an elite oligarchy and making sure CEOs are wealthy at the expense of the middle class and working class. Was it Churchill that said democracy is the worst form of government but better than everything else? And Lincoln who said democracy was the best because we elect the people to represent us? I can't remember the last I voted for someone that represented me. I am relegated to voting for one of the corrupt morons the dems and repubs presented to me.
