Tumbler: Vibrator or rotary?

I have an rcbs vibratory cleaner and am on my third motor for it in only two years, only use it about once every couple of months. i only run it overnight and with about half of the max capacity. don't know what the deal is but they haven't given me any static about it. i just call them and they put a new one in the mail. anyone else had any trouble with this?

Can't hardly imagine this is the problem with this small a motor but are you running a long extension cord that cutts back the electrical power. Also might want to check your connections. Or you could try moving it to a different location to put it on a different line.

Well I started out saying that I didn't think that was it. But thats weird, 3 motors. They don't even have any bearings other than the motor ones you could say were binding causing the motor to over work. HMMMMMMMMM Strange.
Thats a good brand too, much better than some. Odd.

I buy cheap walnut litter in the pet store. Its in the bird section. Add 1/2 cup berry's brass bright and 1/4 cup mineral spirts to 3/4 full tumbler. It gets brass supper bright and no dust. I get almost 5000 brass tumbled before i need to switch the media. I also tumble prior to sizing as i don't want to damage my dies, and I tumble again after sizing to remove the imperial wax. I add a cap full of mineral spirts and a cap of berry's as needed. I've got the cheapie Frankfort Arsnal from midway during one of their sales a few years ago.

Man alive thats alot of polish. When I start with fresh corn cob I use 1 cap ful of Nu-Finish "thats about 1 tablespoon", after a bunch of tumbling I'll add another half to one capful and when thats done working it time to replace with new cob.

BTW 5000 pcs tumbled with each new bowl full of fresh media is nothing, should get double or more. Just my 2 cents.

Mr. Elliot, have you checked the temperature of the motor when you turn it off? Heat kills motors, and I've read cheap tumblers designs don't give enough ventilation.

My Lymon has a bladed fan welded to the shaft. But I have burned one motor up while using outside on the patio. I once put a large cardboard box over it while running to quiet it down. An hour later it was quite warm under that box!

this tumbler has a fan also. and the bearings spin free. the only thing i can think of is that the counter weight on the shaft that causes the vibration is blocking airflow from the fan. if this motor burns up i am going to have to do some modifications before they stop sending free motors.;)
