Tumbling and adding Mothers aluminum mag polish

Walnut and NuFinish here. Tried others . This gives me clean and shiny in one step. Hint: A used dryer fabric softener sheet cut up and added to the mix collects allot of the grease and fouling. Really extends the life of your media.

For wet tumbling I use auto wash and wax a about 1/2 a 9mm case of citric acid. (available in the canning section at Wally World) Cases come out with a nice shine, not as much as with Flitz and corn cob but I like the idea nice clean primer pockets.
Having said that I reloaded for about 6 months before buying a dry tumbler (first) and just washed the cases in water with dish soap and a dab of the pink rust remover.
The brass wasn't as shiney, the primer pockets were not spotless but it seemed to shoot just fine.
(I do have to admit that a nice shine makes looks great however)

Is there some type of additive that keeps the shine?

You could try substituting white vinegar (like you get at the grocery store) for the Lemishine. Try starting off with 3 ounces per gallon of water and adjust the amount based on how long you tumble.

There's a lot of half truths and misunderstanding about the subject. ...The conditions in which the fabled season cracking occurred were pretty extreme. I think that the hour it takes to clean your brass is not enough to cause any damage.

Thank you for that clear explanation.

I concur that the concentration of ammonia in Brasso is not high enough nor are the exposure times long enough when used topically to do any significant damage to the case.

When I wet tumble, I add a few 45ACP shells of Ice synthetic car wax. This acts to keep the cases shiny and also lubricates them a bit.

Be careful of the type of wax/cleaner you use, I did a batch with Turtlewax (I think) brand soap/wax and ended up with a black goopy mess that took several rounds of cleaning/rinsing to get it out.
