I have a question maybe somebody can answer. My father bought a Turkish Mauser 10 years ago. Down by the muzzle, on one side it is stamped 8mm. On the other side, it is stamped 7mm. It is an 8mm mauser, we checked to make sure. Was it just mis-stamped? And is this a common thing? Just curious is all, and thought somebody might have more knowledge on the subject. Thanks

What else does it say at the muzzle? On my Turk 38 it says "1938 German 8mm" then below that it says " CA.I. ST. ALB. VT."....If still in doubt you ought to take it to a gunsmith and have them measure the bore.

I would have to check it as to what else it says. It is at his house. I had also wondered if it was supposed to be 7. something. We checked the bore, and it was an 8mm. He has never fired it either, it was just toy to look at that was cheap. Thanks for the input, and I'll check the markings when I can.

The Turks took a bunch of '93 small ring Mausers chambered in 7x57 and drilled/re-rifled the barrels to 8mm Mauser (7.92x57). This could be one of them.

Check to see if it's a small-ring '93 or a small-ring post-98.

I think they were in 7.65x53 but they were as mentioned rechambered for the 8x57 later on.
