OK, Ray, help a newbie...

What's the difference between "stock," "plain," and "meat" guns?

Why aren't chokes allowed?

What happens if there's a tie?

And how the heck do you know that a turkey is going to show up 65 feet from the firing line? :D

Prolly can't make it for a couple of reasons... no shotty yet (though I talked Mrs. Pdmoderator into letting me buy one) and the afternoon's booked.

Good luck with the shoot!

Answers......................

1) They are all terms for "from the factory/not modified".

2) We tie the turkey....................we shoot at targets pd, not turkeys. The one with the most "shot" in the colored circle wins.

3) If there is a tie, you have a shoot off.

4) No chokes for now because I need to obtain a gauge that would allow me to tell factory chokes from modified chokes. This will happen but I need to locate the tool. Anybody on the board know where I can get this gizmo?

A little too far for me, Ray, but have fun and good luck. A coupla things from the past...

Back before the card shooters all went high tech, the way they attempted to keep the playing field level was the old dime trick. If a dime wouldn't fit in the muzzle, the choke was too tight. This knocked out a lot of Model 12s.

But,as backboring became well known, the Gitover Contingent went in for it big time. They'd ream a choke to pass a dime, but the bore would be enough over the constriction to be over 40 POC.

The tool needed is a barrel reader, AKA bore guage. Most good smiths have one. Check the bore diameter, then the choke, and ban all with more than 40 POC difference. These aren't cheap.

With cash prizes, you will get some Gitovers. Look at the forcing cones too. Stock ones are shorter, reworked ones will distort shot less.

I checked Brownells for the bore gauge. They have several, but any of 'em would seriously chew into your profits.

The least expensive option is a set of barrel calipers (stock number 080-005-000) and a micrometer that you can get somewhere else. :D

Good luck with the shoot, again! (Actually, I was wondering if you were going to launch the turkey from the clay pigeon machine :D)

Thanks guys..................................

Thanks Dave for the info. I'm a newbie at this and any and all help is welcome. Thanks for the "old timer tip too!

pd, thanks for doing the research...........................

gonna have to pass because my only 12ga is a home defence gun with an 18" barrel. They'd fly through my shot pattern.
