The tisas zig m 1911 has caught my eye. Anyone got a good reason to not buy it other than.....brand fan rhetoric? Meaning I'm looking for detailed information like for example... inferior steel used, all mim parts, poorly cast frame, etc. those kind of things.

I realize you get what you pay for often, but I already got a rock solid colt 1911, and I want to retire it to range duty only. So I want a good low cost beater.

Its mainly cost that has me leaning towards this tisas.....I also looked hard at the remingtons, taurus, rias, auto ordinances, haven't considered the ruger yet......looks like a good pistol for the money...but not sure if its worth another 200-300 bucks or so over the tisas.

So to sum up.....any good reasons to not buy a tisas?

Also.....Which version? parkerized or two toned? Any advantages to either besides cosmetics and light reflection?

I think I found a video and some info on the above site, also, I think there are two Turkish made 1911s and one or both had the Glock type rifling (polygonnal [spelling] ?) That ended my intrest as I load and shoot lead only.
They seemed to be well made and at "BUDs" they sure have a lot good to say.
 
True, the girsan and the tisas..both turkish made 1911s....where did you find the info on the polygonal rifling? I watched both videos earlier today, and I might have tuned out on that part, but I honestly don't remeber that information in the videos? I didn't see it in the descriptions, but I scanned quickly, could have missed it. Could ya point me in the right direction to verify which or both use polygonal in their 1911s.

Btw, useful info, appreciated, and a good reason to pass on the turkish and keeping looking. Thank you Sir.
 
There are favourable reports on other forums and I am thinking about buying one. The Regent 1911 is also Turkish made.
 
The Turks generally make good guns, especially with regard to value. I'm not familiar with their 1911s but if they are anything like the quality of their shorguns and CZ clones then get one.

I can`t find the info on the barrel rifling. I think it was on the first Girsan video, Buds had on their site. Best to call and find out for sure if it is or not. Sure is a great price on them, IF, they are as advertized.

I emailed both buds and tisas for the info on polygonal rifling on the 1911s.....I will update this thread if or when I hear back since I can't find any info on this out there.....you know for the googlers.....for future referrence for the next fellow looking for this information.
 
Many of the lower price point 1911s are made with propriatory parts, some don't have all the holes in the right spots, some are OK some are not. Caveat Emptor, I would spend a few more $$, maybe get a Taurus or American Classic as an entry level 1911, Vs a Tisas or Girsan 1911. Until there is more data I would have to pass on the Turkish 1911s, took a while for me to get a Phillipine made one... it took some work to make it dependable, when it does work it shoots great.

update, i got my email answered by tisas....i also emailed girsan, but have not heard back yet from them.

tisas referred me to the usa importer, the gentleman there said.............

"no polygonal rifling on the 1911's"....................he is importing currently.


i will update when i hear back from girsan.

i'm not much of a tinkerer when it comes to pistols beyond polishing feedramps, changing dovetail sights, replacing drop in parts, and bending feed lips on unreliable mags and replacing springs, simple kinda things. so replacing parts isn't a big issue to me, unless of course parts fail....so i got some hard thinking to do on which direction to go in for a reliable beater 1911 clone. once again appreciate all the good info and insight from y'all. thanks again.
 
I've got a Regent 1911 that has functioned flawlessly short of not feeding Tula ball ammo.

The only other issue I have had is that it doesn't want to drop the mag. It's not the release or the mag as I have tried multiple mags with no release installed. I suppose the frame needs a slight buff in the mag well that I will have to get addressed sooner or later.

But as far as shooting goes, it's reliable and accurate. I like my RIA compact better, but I have no issues packing the Regent short of having to give the gun a slight downward shake to drop my empties.
 
I also have been on the fence on buying either a Tisa or Girsan. So far, real users from buds have given an average of 4.5 stars in their reviews. Buds also claim that they have sold 2500 of them! It's hard not to beleive that they are not satisfied with these Turkish 1911s'. The price just throws me off a little. I know you get what you pay for, especially during these "hard times". So, I don't know...

I must say I have the Stoeger Cougar, made also in Turkey, and am completely happy with its accuracy and make of the gun. It shoots and feels $200-300 more than its purcahse price.

MagnunJoe - i think you hit the nail on the head. i doubt these will make it that far, but the manufacturer says 25,000 rounds minimum?

one of the pakguns guys said his grip safety failed enough times he got rid of the gun, and replaced it with a taurus pt1911.

it will be fun and cheap to find out....like i did with my norinco iac 982 shotgun......close to 650 rounds through it and still going strong....we shall see though.....

Tisas

Bought one last week. Ran a box of FMJ American Eagle thru it and it worked great. Have checked some of the parts and they are to spec according to blueprints. Its built to series 70 specs. For 400. a nice shooter.

^ good info, appreciated. Any major wear on the parts? There is some talk of hit and miss metallurgy, but no real details I could find except low round counts and wear that looks like the gun was shot more than it was.
 
I have no experience with Turkish 1911's but I DO have experience and knowledge of Turkish shotguns. Given 1911's are far more complex than a typical shotgun I would run, not walk away from any Turkish made 1911.
 
@bearfoot...good read, appreciate the link. My plan with the turk is the same as yours...a range toy and if it turns out to be reliable, I'm ahead.

@Hkguns....I thought turkish shotguns came in two basic flavors...good ones that are pricey and not so good ones that are cheap? On the turk 1911, doesn't matter now I already bought it...can't run away. Worst that can happen is I can use the cast frame to build a better working 1911 from all the parts I got sitting around. Hopefully it won't cost me the price of a new hk pistol to get it running. Otherwise I fear ill be looking back on this moment and thinking I could have had an hk, as they always run right out of the box.

I got enough reliable shooters that I can afford to play with this one...that's half the fun, right?;)
 
I can't speak for the Tisas, but I am fairly confident that the Girsan 1911 has an off-spec spacing for their grips bushings. I've been reading reports that standard 1911 grips will NOT fit the Girsan 1911.
 
My hunting bud's have had hunts ruined with Turkish shotguns. They always made fun of me spending extra money on Beretta shotguns. That is until each of them lost a hunt because their Turkish shotties broke down in the field.

Hopefully, since you already have it everything will work fine for you....Just don's spend a mint "Playing" with it would be my best advice. But DO have fun with it!
