Has anyone recently purchased an M-1 through the CMP? If so, how long did it take from submitting the paperwork until receipt of the rifle?

The www.odcmp.com website simply says "Allow up to 90 days". Do they tend to take this long, or is it more like 3-4 weeks?

Just curious (and REALLY not wanting to call and bother them).

Thanks!

If all your paper work is in order......and they have the rifle you are looking for......a week to ten days is about the average. When I ordered mine.....I think it was here in about that time. I had ordered a USGI SA/SG M1.........and man am I pleased with it! :D

Trapper,

As long as you order an SA-SG it should be pretty quick, as Steve said. The CMP has LOTS of USGI SA's...... These are on the shelf and ready to ship.

Ordering a Dane repat SA with VAR bbl or a USGI HRA SG will entail a wait and 90 days might even be optimistic....... just depends on how many they find in the incoming mix of rifles. These never spend time on the shelf. Orders are waiting for them as soon as they are found, armory checked, and tested.

Best regards,

I ordered a SA/SG M-1 and a SC "S" stock '03A3. The order was mailed two weeks ago this upcoming Wed. If I haven't heard anything by the middle of next week, I may send them an e-mail just to check.

Mostly, I want to make sure I can participate in the April Mail in Match. OK, mostly I just want to get the rifles, clean them, look at them and shoot them.

Update: :)

It's here, it's here, it's here!!!!!

The M-1 at least.

Too busy to do much with it right now, but it's in better shape than I anticipated. The wood has some pretty good dings, but not objectionable, especially considering its age and use. All the metal parts seem to be in decent shape. I'll have to do a little research and see what kind of parts its made up from.

There isn't nearly as much cosmoline as I had anticipated. It's a light coat, instead of a thick layer (although I have yet to detail strip it).

Now, I have something to play with while I wait for the '03.

Very cool! Can you tell I'm excited?

BTW, the turn around time was exactly 2 weeks from the day I mailed the packet to the receipt of the rifle.

CMP order

Sent an order in for 1903's early in March.
Rcvd them 15 days from the date I dropped the paperwork in the mailbox.

M1...maybe later....

I shot my first rifle match ever today (!), and as a result now qualify for CMP rifle purchase - thinking about an M1.

The match was fun...

I have my heart set on a Winchester - to adopt my winny War Baby (M1 Carbine)... but these are not currently available... any chance CMP will release more?

Sven, It's not a question of CMP "releasing" more Winny's, it's a matter of the CMP FINDING more Winny's in the incoming crates of rifles the Army sends them. The vast majority of rifles are SA's, with a fair number of HRA's. VERY few Winny's and IHC's are in the mix... probably on the order of only 2-3% of the total mix (that's just a SWAG on my part).

Prior to last April it was strictly "luck of the draw" on what type of M1 you got... you did not get to choose. Your order was filled with the next rifle on the shelf, regardless of who made it. You only got a Winny if you were very, very lucky.

The CMP announced this last April that you could now order whichever of the 4 manufacturers you want, Spfld Armory, IHC, H&R, or Winchester. It took less than 6 months for them to accumulate a THREE YEAR backorder log for Winny's & IHC's.

I waited about 6 weeks before submitting an order for a Winny. Just this last week I received the Winny Service Grade I ordered last May 18th... 10-1/2 months wait. It's taken them that long to catch up to my number on the waiting list, and the list had been open less than 2 months when mine went in.

They stopped taking Winny and IHC orders on Sept. 1 of last year. They say they have a backorder log for those two manufacturers that will stretch out for at least another two years.

After they catch up, they will most likely start another backorder list.... and this is the IMPORTANT part if you want to get a Winny.... When CMP does announce that they are again taking orders for Winny's and IHC's, if you are NOT ALREADY CMP QUALIFIED and can get your order in the mail to them POST HASTE the list may be closed down again before you get qualified. Everyone who's been waiting for the list to re-open for 3 years will suddenly be dropping bou-cou orders in the mail...

IF you are not now CMP qualified, DO SO.

Just my thoughts...
