I didn't know you could do that!

I didn't have a full-sized Glock until the police departments started changing back from 40 caliber to 9mm. I couldn't resist a G22 with two magazines, the box, and a little bit of finish wear for $285 (IIRC). It's a nice shooter and I like it. Thank you again to all of the police departments who have made my collection of excellent and inexpensive 40 caliber service pistols possible! :)

In a thread a month or two ago a couple of members mentioned to me that I could turn my G22 into a G17 just by purchasing a special barrel and a magazine. I did not know that, but was intrigued. Lone Wolf Distributors had a barrel for $99 and a magazine for $27 and some change. Shipping was free. I figured what the heck and ordered them. Then I had to go out of town for a couple of weeks.

Yesterday I finally got a chance to test it out. As you may know, switching out the barrel takes literally about one minute. My FiL and I took it to the range and took turns shooting it in one caliber, switching out the barrel and mag, shooting it in the other caliber, etc. It worked great. In 9mm it shoots just a tiny bit lower than POA. That is easy to adjust for. Between the two of us we used up most of a box of 40 caliber and something like a box and a half of 9mm. We had zero malfunctions. I was happy and impressed. It's not like I really needed another 9mm pistol, but I feel like I got a G17 for just under $127, and that makes my penny-pinching heart very happy.

Thanks to the members who gave me the great info! :)

I like the versatility of convertible guns as well. Have been doing the .38 Super to 9mm. swap for many years now. Just like your G22 to G17 conversion, all I need is a 9mm. barrel assembly and 9mm. magazines to make it happen.

Question for other members: Are there any other service pistols that can easily change calibers like this? It seems like I own one from almost every major manufacturer, so I might have more of them that are "switchable" and I just don't know it.

You can also buy a stock Glock 357 Sig barrel and drop it right in. The Glock 22 mags with work with it also.

Get an Advantage Arms 22 conversion kit and you have a 4 caliber gun. I did that during the 2013 panic and could normally always have something to shoot through it

By the way, i have converted 4 glock 40's to 9 and 357 by just swapping the barrels. (2 g22's, g23, g27) The 9mm mags are not needed, as none of them miss feeds at all. They are surprisingly reliable. and i changed nothing but the barrel. Now if i were to keep it was a duty gun. I would get a 9mm mag and sear block.
