Yes I know most all TV is pretty lame when it comes to firearms truths.

Last night I was watching NCIS and a statement was made that in 2010 firing pins will be micro stamped with a number to trace spent shell casings.

Would this even be possible?

If this is a old topic..... 1000 pardons.

It was passed into law in California about ten minutes ago. I think it's on hold until the technology is perfected.

And speaking of NCIS, was that the season finale or the SERIES finale? Looked pretty Final to me.

In DVR'd it so my wife and I could watch Dancing With The Stars.

Jason Taylor did a nearly perfect final dance. Even I appreciated it. But it did not make up for his previous two mediocre dances that were included in the final scoring.

While I sometimes like NCIS, I have to remind myself that:
- criminal investigators don't look like Abby.
- NCIS has almost nothing to do with national security or terrorism investigations.
- tends to have a pretty mediocre reputation as an investigating agency.
- criminal investigations almost never turn on the investigation, usually they already know who did what (or think they do) and the investigation is mostly about proving it to the satisfaction of a court.
- insubordination and disrespect to higher authority is severely frowned on in the military.

When I was in the service, NIS (the predecessor to NCIS) was widely considered to be a joke. I believe they were the lead agency on the Chaplain Jensen case. They also FU'ed that battleship case, IIRC.

SOMEONE needs to turn in their Man Card. :neener: :D

Don't expect firearms expertise when they can't get the vehicles correct.

The bad guy in the cowboy boots got out of clearly marked Lincoln Navigator, but the "tire tread evidence" said the vehicle was a Mercury Marquis. Curious.

That mercury was rented by the guy that director shepard was with. The two of them drove out to the bar in that, and the guy (who was also gibbs's buddy and old boss) left after shepard got shot.

You have the story line a little skewed.

I don't mind all the goofs. I enjoy the show. It's entertaining and much better than most of the other stuff on TV. Even my wife would rather watch it than the so called reality stuff.

As to next year, nobody is fired. The new director was merely making a point. Do this again and the stuff is really going to hit the fan. If you noticed, one of the files was his. Which he conveniently shredded some of his stuff. Since the previous director acted with gross dereliction of duty in covering her goof ups, kind of hard to blame the people under her for trying to figure out what was going on.

Possibly the state NCIS is headquartered in enacted case stamping that will take effect in 2010.
I rolled my eyes when I heard the comment but didn't pay it more attention than that.
TV is TV. There's another thread about CSI Miami and all the blunders on that show, like a 9 mm. round made in 1969 with blackpowder going off after falling off a table, blowing up an overhead light and causing a fire....a Glock that blows up and injures the user in an unrealistic way (the Glock blowing up wasn't the unrealistic part ;) ).
I like to pick on TV shows as much as the next guy. I still just shake my head whenever I see an old TV show and someone has a silenced revolver.:uhoh:
I sort of like NCIS but the technical stuff I view as nothing more than a way to advance the plot inside the fiction of the TV show.
It isn't real. Just like most other TV shows (including the news most of the time).

NCIS is a much smaller agency than the TV show depicts. There are less than 1500 total agents in NCIS, and they have to farm a lot of their lab stuff out to the FBI (17,500 people there) and they have to wait around like every other agency for those results.
The odds of the microstamping tech working isn't too bad, for three or four shots. Then, like anything else, it's a serious wear item, an a VERY expensive one to replace.
I say, find guns you like, and order a crapload of firing pins for them now. Like full-capacity mags, and any other evil feature you can find. Clock's ticking, people.

Haven't watched that episode yet - I was at an evening match shooting a Real Gun - but will catch up. I admit to watching the whole family of shows, but they are slipping. As they run out of plausible plots, the cases investigated get weirder and the soap opera of the characters' lives gets more attention.

Further, I note they have toned down Dr Mallard a good deal and Miss Sciuto a bit. They were stealing scenes from the more conventional leads. Still do, for my money.

Yea, I'm guessing the next season starts with either the new director saying PSYCHE and they all breath a sigh of reliefe.

That or after they leave Gibbs goes back in and blackmails the new director over whatever he shreded.

That or for part of the 1st episode next season the team members are shown being miserable in their new assignments until a case comes along that is so big and nasty that the director is forced into bringing them back.

That or the new team spends the entire next season aruging over HiPoints.

:)

While I sometimes like NCIS, I have to remind myself that:

I hate that show, because it is another one where the cops are above the law. They are constantly breaking into places with no warrants and doing other illegal stuff.

an agency run like the NCIS is allowed to run is THE ENEMY

you do realize its a TV show not a dcoumentry? Its no better or no worse than any other fluff thats on these days.

It a TV show for Pete's sake! I like it for the interaction between the characters. I like the women! Even the Director had her HOT moments ( but then, she's closer to my age, and a redhead!). Tony's juvenile antics get a little old. Wonder who'll replace Zeba? Better have black hair, the flashing eyes and a cute butt...on, yeah, button!! Maybe longer legs.......

To keep it gun related, they do carry Sigs!! Or Sig/Sauers as they usually referred to on the show. Remember Gibbs telling Kate on the range: "Keep your shoulders relaxed!" Then later "Kate, relax your shoulers" right before she double tapped the BG's head!

'Bout the only show worth a crap on TV these days. (Never seen Firefly!!)

And, as stated earlier, mcrostamping is currently the law in California, passed earlier this year, and takes effect in 2010. I have no heard of it being on hold, or it currently being challenged.Other states have been trying to pass the same, or very similar laws, but I dont think any others have yet passed.
