Alleged burglar shot, 73-year-old resident wounds suspect

Fort Bend County Sheriff's investigators were still sorting through the details that led to the arrest of a 19-year-old Richmond man who was shot after he allegedly tried to break into a home early Monday morning.
Terriann Carlson, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office, said the shooting occurred at about 1:38 a.m. in the 4300 block of Colony West Drive near Richmond.
She said William Hansen Ebarb, 19, was arrested by Sheriff's deputies after he was released from OakBend Medical Center, where he was treated for a gunshot wound.
Carlson said the report indicated Ebarb allegedly drove his vehicle into a yard and then walked three houses down to the residence and forcibly tried to enter a screen in the rear of the residence. He was shot when the armed 73-year-old resident confronted him at the back door and asked him to leave.
"Ebarb refused to leave and continued to force open the back door," said Carlson. "The victim repeatedly requested (Ebarb) to leave. In fear of his life and property, the victim fired two rounds, hitting (Ebarb) once in the waist area."
Carlson said the homeowner detained Ebarb until deputies and paramedics arrived.
About the same time, Carlson said, the homeowner's wife was transported to the Richmond hospital in critical condition after suffering some type of medical trauma related to incident.
Carlson said Ebarb, who was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail, faces charges of burglary of a habitation and injury to the elderly.
