Wow I thought the .308 would have run away with it! :what:

Anyway, if I was hunting all over North America, for all sorts of prey … it would have to be a .300 Win Mag. Awesome range, awesome power, and generally … overkill for most things lol.

What was the old cadence beat?

THERE ARE VERY FEW PROBLEMS A MAN CAN'T FIX WITH $700 AND A 30-06...

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, but have you considered the 30-06?

.375 H&H Magnum. You can never have too much gun for those damn coyotes and their Acme bulletproof vests.

While the 30-06 is an outstanding cartridge, for me, being a smaller statured guy, I'll take the .308. The .308 has 20%-30% less recoil than the '06 and will do 90% of what the '06 will do. I really like the way the .308 shoots.

My dad just bought a Remington 700 tactical .308, 20" heavy barrel, Nikon 3-9x scope, this is one sweet shooting, accurate rifle, friggin awesome!:D

.30-06 Time proven!! There is only a few other logical options. Being avalibility on the shelf. That is the .270win and the .308win. The rest has its major flaws. You can buy a box of .270 or .30-06 at the gas station. And in many loadings the .30-06 can kill any North American game. But so can others. So why is it the best?? You are more likely to find ammo for it without breaking a sweat. Personally I like the .223 and .308 , but I have other reasons for that choice. like if SHTF

30-06

300 win mag might work but what would you do if you see that nice trophy buck at like 50-100yds and your using a hot load. You might just have to say goodbye. I've seen a deer get shot in the neck with a 270 weatherby at about 75yds It tore it to pieces but it did drop it right there unlike the 243. I used. I know I would not use a 300 for deer or anything smaller but I have access to a few different rifle's.

Whoops I forgot to mention the 308. which should work on just about anything.

Well I don't know to much but thats my $00.02 not that it means anything. I'm sure theres other good calibers that I'm not fond of but it all is just a matter of opinion if you ask me.

OFT, Pale Horse--you just had to get CUTE--just say 30/06 or its offspring. You might also look at another old warhorse in 303
