U.S. Revolver Co. & Iver Johnson springs: Where?

Hi. I have a tiny .22LR U.S. Revolver Co revolver and an Iver Johnson 1900 revolver calibered in .38 S&W. They both need a cylinder pin release latch spring on the front of the frame that keeps the cylinder pin from falling out. Numrich's has no idea when they'll get more. Does anyone know where I can get them? Both of these guns are as perfect as one can get; the .38 may even be unfired. I really, really want them 100% functional. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Oh fudge...

Take a small pin punch with a cup point (available at www.brownells.com) under S&W tools. Use the punch to drive out the crosspin that holds the latch.

Then find someone (gunsmith or whatever) that has a set of small drills. Run the shank end of a drill into the hole that holds the spring until you fin one that will just fit. Measure the drill diameter with a dial caliper or "mike."

E-mail Wolff and tell them you need a spring the size of the drill blank you measured that's about 1/2" long. You may have to trim it a bit, but it will work.

Or you can talk to the folks at Brownells. They sell spring stock in different sizes in long lengths. Just cut off the length you need.

The person who sold the gun to me finally responded to me today and said he'd repair it if I sent it to him! Holy Crap, customer service from a stand up guy! That was refreshing. I had the .22 for a while but just got the .38. I've attached 2 pics. The gun looks brand new in person. I've been looking for one for a while and was going to swallow a repair part price and some labor costs because the thing is cherry. The bore is like a mirror and the forcing cone looks untouched. Thanks for you help, though. I may use your info to fix the little one.

Numrich's has no idea when they'll get more.

This shouldn't be a problem. The spring in question is an ordinary coil one, about 1/8" in diameter. One should be easy to obtain because literally hundreds of thousands of this model revolver were made, and making one from regular spring stock isn't hard either. A bigger issue may be that (I think) the trigger guard may have to be removed to install the spring. I haven't looked in a long time.

Remember that both of them are for blackpowder cartridges if you do make them work. The .38 S&W will be easy enough to load or reload with BP, with the .22, use CB's or the like and it should be fine.
