Just got the El Patron Competition model in 45 LC. I'd like to replace the Navy grip with the grip from an Army 1860. I think in order to do less fitting, I need to get the whole unit, back strap, trigger guard and mainspring. I want the steel, not brass. Don't need the grips as I'm gonna put other than Uberti grips on it. Any ideas where the best place to get the parts would be?

Have you seen the new Cimarron model with the Army grip, octagon barrel and factory installed short stroke kit? Might be a better option to sell yours and buy one. I handled one at the NRA convention and was duly impressed.

Gee Craig, I haven't owned this one for a whole week yet! Never did like octagon barreled pistols much. Thats the reason I don't have a '51. I do own 1860's and an 1861 though. Looked at an 1871 conversion in a shop today with about a 5 1/2 inch octagon barrel in 38 spcl. Just didn't float my boat. It was a trade in and the asking price is $375. My El Patron loves my handload and shoots in one hole at 15 yds from a good bag on the bench. I think I'll keep her.
Thanks guys for the links to the parts houses. I can find the complete assembly in steel back strap and brass trigger guard but not one with both steel parts. I'll keep looking. Its not a "have to do" just an "I'd like to do".

I have a version of that Pietta here, minus the short-stroke kit.
Have not fired it yet, but it looks nice & feels great.

This is a Peacemaker clone, not a percussion, not a conversion.
