I replaced the Amega mount on my Garand with an Ultimak M12 scout mount.

The "profile" of this mount is very close to that of the original wood handguard, which means that the mount isn't visible when using the iron sights.

The Amega mount was usable, but I will admit that the rail's visibility at the edges of the sight picture was a little distracting.

The attachment method is a similar, no-drill clamp affair, but it uses two clamps (which are very similar to the upper half of scope rings with a horizontal split) instead of the sheet metal / clamp bar used by the Amega.

As I haven't shot it yet, I can't report as to how solid the clamping system is, but the manufacturer claims you can get it tight enough with just the supplied Allen wrench. While Lok-Tite can be used, the manufacturer says it isn't necessary.

If the instructions are followed, a slight gap exists at the rear of the mount so it doesn't bear on the receiver. I believe this will affect accuracy.

The quality seems to be top-notch.

It will work with intermediate eye relief scopes or red dots. I have an Eotech mounted on mine.

At a suggested price of $185, it is a little more expensive than the Amega.

I recommend it for anyone who would like to mount an optic on their Garand, without damaging the rifle. (Whether it is a crime or not to use anything other than the original sights is another question... :) )

I have the purple hornies for an M12. Have you tried it out yet? I have a Plainfield M1 carbine with an Ultimak on it, it's great. The M12 just looks right to me. Imagine what something like that would have done for combat use.

No, I just installed it and have not had a chance to shoot it.

I immediately noticed that it feels better when carried one-handed at the balance point. The Amega was just a little too large for a comfortable grip.

The rail length is shorter, but it works fine with an Eotech and I believe it would work (as pictured) with standard ring spacing for an IER scope.

It also has no provision for "accessory rails" like the Amega had, but I really couldn't imagine hanging a light on the Garand.

I mean, there have to be some limits... :)
