Did some cornfield shooting today with some Ultramax 10mm 180gr fmj cartridges, midwayusa.com sells 50 for $25 + s&h and adverts them at 1100fps. I bought two boxes and thought I'd give them a shot.. no pun intended. Since I bought my g20 a month ago, all I have shot is doubletap 165gr gold dots and some 135gr noslers.

I expected little-to-no expansion/deformation because of the fmj and 180gr. Some of them didn't expand, only slight deformation, but others had a nice .75" mushrooming with full weight retention! I will definitely be buying again...

My question is- does anyone know exactly what bullets Ultramax is using in these loads, or does it not matter since they are fmj?

Here are some pics.. the obvious one is a doubletap 165 gold dot, the others are the ultramax's. The target was an old text book.

I doubt if you will ever know unless the manufacturer tells you. In my experience over the years with FMJ bullets(mostly 230 gr 45 ACP) that they all are pretty much the same in performance.
