I was walking home from a shop at which I'd just dropped off a vehicle for service, and passes a house that had a large SUV (Chevy or GMC Suburban) in its driveway. The Florida personalized plate on it read "UN-ARMED."

Now, I certainly understand anyone's decision to go unarmed, and don't judge them for it. What I'm struggling to understand is why someone would be so proud of such a decision that they would not only announce it to the motoring public, but also to actually pay for the announcement (Florida charges extra fees not only for a personalized plate, but also for each annual renewal of it.)

I'm not inviting members here to "trash" this guy (or gal) for their decision to be unarmed (if that is indeed the case.) That's not the purpose of the thread.

I can't remember what it was, but there was another sticker on the truck that led me to believe the person who put it there leaned more conservative than liberal, which adds to the confusion.

Is there something I'm missing besides the obvious possibility the owner is a staunch "anti-gunner"? Maybe there is a word play of some sort in use here I haven't thought of?

Well he may as well dangle a Rolex from his rear view mirror. Not too bright IMHO.

You have already mentioned some other possibilities regarding the "un-armed" license plate. I would not assume that the plate is necessarily gun related, even though it probably is. And if it is gun related I would not assume they are being truthful about really not having any guns.

We are in interesting times with the 2nd Amendment and the RKBA in America. I have no idea what's going on in someone's mind when they have a license plate like that or when some people put bumper/window stickers all over their car with picture of a gun or NRA or anything that screams look at me and this is what I stand for. I don't think any of those kinds of things for or against guns are good for the cause. But, that's how some people choose to exercise their right. I respect their choice, but I personally wouldn't do any of that because it's of very little benefit if any.Just not smart any way you look at it.

They may be into martial arts and think people will get it based on that.
Or like someone else said, maybe they’re looking to shoot someone so using it as bait.
Or maybe they’re stupid.
Or maybe they’re an anti2A advocate

You really have no way of knowing until you talk with them.

My first thought is that maybe it belongs to someone without arms. A quick Google search turned up at least 3 stories about arm-less people driving with just their feet. A Missouri woman, a Tennessee man, and an Arizona woman who also happens to be a body builder. Maybe there's one in Florida too.

I bet it has more of a meaning than just no guns who knows he may be a gun dealer and it’s just a joke among friends

My gut feeling is that it was not a political or antigun statement.

Maybe he read too many stories about the police shooting motorists that they suspected of being armed.

One member of our local ice rink has a plate that reads "No ar15s". If i as a bettin man he has at least one locked up in a vehicle safe....

I’m pretty wary of putting any sort of gun or fishing stickers on my vehicle for fear of the vehicle being targeted by thieves or liberals, but this sort of advertisement seems like he’s TRYING to be a victim.

Thieves and liberals: now there is a false equivalence for you.

I don’t know why, but I have seen plenty of them. I used to work with a guy who was a PLC programmer and he wrote error codes that would scroll through the lighted marquee boards that they used instead of andon lights... his favorite read Id10t. His license plate is a joke on that joke... IDTENT. People ask him about camping a lot. Point here is that the guy who got it had something in mind. Probably thought it funny, and without knowing the guy or his sense of humor, you may be missing the joke.
