Unarmed, but attacking just the same.

Are there some practical non deadly weapons/tactics/options that give you an edge when deadly force is NOT called for? My state (PA) is pretty gun friendly, but not so much for other types of weapons. PA prohibits many types of non leathal options as "prohibited offensive weapons".You might have a physical advantage in a fist fight, but you could still loose a few teeth. Id rather not get that close. I like the idea of a non leathal standoff device of some type. There are times & places id rather not have a gun.

It would be easier to answer your questions if we knew what LESS LETHAL options are legal. There are no non lethal defensive options. Open hand defensive tactics can and have killed.

I live in PA, you can own and carry most any reasonable defensive less lethal option here. My personal preference is pepper spray, I carry one of these from Saber Red. Decent ~12 foot range, and a lot of output volume.

Pardon my grammer. Will use "less leathal" moving foreward.

What does PA allow? Self defense spray? Air Taser? Gotta help us out with what's allowed.

OC/Pepper/Mace spray is legal to carry in PA.

So is a Taser.

There ya go.
You can carry a tazer?? Wow!

A taser is not a good choice for a private citizen. It was designed as a compliance weapon for law enforcement. First off, you have to make contact with both barbs. I’ve seen barbs fall off or not make good contact through thick clothing. The effect stops instantly when the charge stops. The model they sell to the public has a 30 second cycle that is supposed to give you time to escape before your assailant is on his feet and ready to fight. The “drive stun” application where you press the taser against the subject isn’t as effective because the taser works best when there is separation of the barbs do the electric charge goes through a bigger area of the body.

I’ve used both the taser and OC on the street and I think that OC is the better option for the private citizen. The effects last longer and unlike a law enforcement officer you don’t have to take the person you just sprayed into custody and deal with the cross contamination. You can spray and run.

Keep in mind that nothing will incapacitate everyone, every time. Not a taser, not OC, not a 230 grain jacketed hollow point out of your favorite 1911. Have a plan in case whatever you choose fails to give the desired effect.

I agree 100%, those are similar points as to what I was discussing in an earlier thread here.

Cold Steel #91-PCAX Axe Head , Crook Top , Walking Cane , see it at : www.coldsteel.com
Cold Steel's very own crook top walking stick ( walking cane) . Made from black high impact polypropolene with an axe head designed handle , very comfortable to grip and walk with . No metal parts , solid with enough weight to be useful but not a hinderance . I have walked with it in doctors offices , wally mart stores , big box home depot stores , elder care home , grocery stores and restaurants .
No One Looks Twice at this walking cane ... the bank security guard held the door open for me and we chatted . The plastic "axe " head handle forms a semi-circle so the cane can be hung ( I love the hanging feature) ... the cane has enough mass so if used to defend yourself ... you could put a good hurt on someone ... and if you watched some U-Tube Walking Cane Defense Instructions ... could probably beat someone down quite handily .
I feel better having it with me , I'm 75 and recovering from a broken left leg (shattered thigh bone) and muscle damage ... it helps me walk and gives me a way to defend my self ...
To me it's like having an invisible concealed weapon in plain sight ... and no one see's it as a "Weapon" !

My wife also also bougt me a cane that has a 18" Sword concealed in it - M48 Tactical Sword Cane
United Cutlery ...see it at : www.unitedcutlery.com
Stainless steel handle , skull crusher hammer head and metal penetrating pike ... This thing has got to be so illegal ... it's also heavy ... If I used it for self defense I would probly go to jail ...
But the thing is awesome ( looks & feels like a Midieval Battle Axe ) ... what a great wife I got !

Sounds like a tazer might not be very practical. May also be more difficult to conceil. Perhaps as a cockpit weapon for the truck?

Beg to differ.

I'm not a Taser expert. I've only ever seen them used three times and 2 of the three the barbs didn't land right, as you mentioned, and the cop had to contact stun the person.

When I went through OC certification for G4S every single person that was sprayed was able to fight through it but we all know it was coming.

I've mentioned this before but when I was working multiple people dared me to shoot them but I got instant compliance every time I pulled my OC spray out.
True. But difficult to conceil. Is that a howitzer in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

If one were to use a tazer, and a barb hit an eye or other non healing tissue, might carry some liability. I suppose it could possibly cause a heart to stop?
