I have shot it a bit and am a big fan of the .357 SIG but don't own one yet.

Most of the pistols in this chambering are a bit above my budget, unfortunately.

Two pistols I've found that fit my budget are both imported by EAA: the Witness, made by Tanfoglio, and the EZ made by Zastava.

I was wondering if it would be safe to ream a 9mm barrel in either of these for a .357 chamber and just procure some .40 magazines since the .357 fits in all the same clips?

The Witness' action is definitely up to the pressure, as they already chamber it in 10mm. I'm not sure about the Zastava's ability to stand the round, but FWIW it appears to be a clone of the P226.

Anyone's thoughts on the viability of this?

EDIT: Ignore the part about the Witness, as it only occurred to me to look for conversion barrels right after posting this. The question still remains about the Zastava though.

I am not sure what your budget is, but I got a CPO Sig 229 in .357 Sig and a .40 bbl at 50% off with the gun purchase.

I couldn't resist, and I couldn't go wrong. Gun looks perfect. Mags have a little wear, but I don't care.

The .357 sig is a real BLAST to shoot!

It's a lot easier to make a .357sig from a .40 or 10mm. When you put the larger cartridges in a 9mm frame the extractor and ejector won't be in the right place. If the extractor managed to hold on the the cartridge it might even push it over enough that the ejector would be hitting the primer (bad if you're ejecting live rounds).

I thought of rechambering my 9mm P226 to .40 and this is what stopped me in my tracks.

The Witness would be ideal for my purposes, I think, but I don't know how long it will take to get a hold of one.

The problem with starting with the Zastava in 40 is that new barrels don't seem to be available. Admittedly the ejector on a 9mm might be a problem as I've heard of people converting a G17 or G34 to .40 who then had the thing fire out of battery when they tried to clear it.

Guess I'll just have to wait and get the Witness.
